Default 'The Kingdom' - High-Def Digest Review

Ken's review of 'The Kingdom' has been posted. He's still a fan of the film. This Blu-ray sports sharp, faithful video, disappointing audio, and some good supplements. Recommended.

This will be high on my to-buy list, but unfortunately it's overshadowed by all the great December releases.

I haven't seen this movie so I will rent it and then decide. The low mediocre audio/video rating keeps from a blind buy.

hmm I was hoping the DTS track would be a huge improvement, although I think Ken is to hard on it anyways, I think its pretty damn good mix. Oh well I stick to my .

has anybody else compared the DD+ to the DTS master?

The perceptual differences between DD+ and DTS-MA are very minor. If there's ever a huge difference, it's going to be related to volume differentiation or a different source used.

I've never seen it on HD DVD or BD but the BD audio score doesn't suprise me cause the sound was rather weak when I rented the DVD.

I was hoping Master Audio would flatten the DD+ track. Ussually that is the case, but not this time. Oh well, at least Its out on BOTH formats now.

I blind bought the HD-DVD version and was pleasantly surprised. The movie was solid, last 30 minutes was intense.

Not according to Peter B. in his comparison of the DD+ HD DVD vs. the Dolby TrueHD Blu-ray soundtrack of Transformers. In his review of the film on both formats, he clearly states a preference for the TrueHD soundtrack.

Oh yes, I know DTS-MA and TrueHD are not the same thing - but they are both lossless - and therefore, sound exactly the same - and therefore both are noticeably superior to lossy DD+

I read that this movie was a waste, so I am suprised by the 4-star movie rating.

And I am sure that someone wrote somewhere that Kung Fu Panda was a waste, but that does not make it so. Most people seem to have enjoyed this film, taking it for what it is, including me. I bought the HD-DVD after renting the DVD. It's a cool action flick.
