Highlander: The Series - Season One - February '09
UPDATE: Only season one of Highlander is currently planned. No plans for Xena or Hercules. If season one of Highlander sells well, they'll move forward with the other seasons.

Good news for fans!!
TVshowsondvd.com posted on their site about Highlander: The Series season 1 being available to pre-order for $39.99 + $7.95 s/h on Blu Ray with an estimated release of February 15th (it's listed as 2008, but that's apparently a typo), but that date is not firm (may end up being later in the year). The original ad is reported to have stated there is a limited number of sets.
There is nothing listed about specs or packaging for Highlander season one other than it'll have all 22 season one episodes and that the special features would be in Blu Ray clarity, so who knows if that means that all the extras from the DVD sets will be in HD?
Apparently they are only planning on releasing these online through their web site, similar to what they originally did with the DVDs. Hopefully these will sell well and get retail releases.
First 1,000 order of highlander season one on blu ray get a mini-katana. I'm NOT sure order numbers are indicitive of this, since mine was well over 10,000 and I doubt they've sold that many so far. Probably just a generic order number from everything they sell.

I recently watched the first 3 seasons of Highlander on DVD, borrowed from a friend. The video quality ranges from poor to terrible. I can't imagine that there is really anything to clean up for Bluray. This is most likely a waste of effort.
For older shows like these and Babylon 5 (another favorite which could make it to Bluray), it is probably best to just live with the DVDs. -

RSS Foul - Poorly named post!
I came here all excited for the MOVIE Highlander (a top 3 favorite) to be coming out on Blu-ray and I get here and it is the disgraceful Highlander TV series along with the craptacular Hercules and Xena series as well.
Bad post, no donut!

highlander the series was a vast improvement over the movies. i'll take duncan over connor. the series had some very good episodes with great cast members. it unraveled more of the "immortal" universe. the show went downhill after season 5 when they decided to kill ritchie. seasons 3-5 was when it hit its stride. the four horseman storyline were the best 2 episodes. it would've made a great movie.

Wait, Highlander is only $40 SRP? I paid about $60 for eacah DVD season, so I think I'll buy it.
My favorite Season was 3, but my favorite episode was the two parter with the four horsemen."...somewhere out there, michael bay now has the basis for his next film...and it's all your fault." - project-blu -

So would the show then be presented 16:9 instead of 4:3?

This is great news!! I will probably pick this up in Feb as long as I find another job by then. This show was awesome I liked the movies as well. So I would probably pick those up as well once they come out.

UPDATE:
The higher ups at Davis/Panzer have stated that Xena and Hercules are NOT planned to be released on Blu Ray. If season one of Highlander sells well, they'll continue with the next season.
