Default 'The Shawshank Redemption' - High-Def Digest Review

Peter has reviewed 'The Shawshank Redemption.' He says it's a modern
classic. This Blu-ray is a winner, with excellent video and audio.
Supplements aren't overwhelming, but this is still recommended.

Mine to

The US BD doesn't have the interviews?

The UK one has interviews with Tim, Morgan, Frank, and maybe a couple others. Can't remember. (BTW all special features in the UK edition, besides the comm is locked)

EDIT: N/M, I see it now

Well written and accurate (to my tastes) review of the film itself. It's still hard to believe that this wasn't more of a box office hit. There is just something "thick" about the film. When I watch it I really feel into it and it stirs real emotion and not just sympathy or empathy. I felt most for Red. He was in too long and there was no adjusting to the world after all that time away. His portrayal really puts a human touch on what is usually seen as an animalistic world.

I'm looking forward to buying this one. I wish Columbia House would do a BOGOF sale. Freddy

Audio & video wise, is this the same transfer as the UK disc?

And is this US version region free?

Easily, my most anticipated movie on Blu-ray. The only movies I have watched more times than Shawshank are The Majestic and Field Of Dreams.

What continues to impress me about this movie after all these years and all the times I’ve seen it is that there isn’t a single frame of this film that fails to entertain. No matter how good a movie is, at some point if only for a few seconds, there will be a portion of dialogue that fails to completely hold your attention. Not Shawshank. It is the most relentlessly entertaining movie I have ever seen. Nothing is dull, nothing is unwarranted, nothing is out of place. Just perfection from beginning to end.

Looking at the release schedule I’m left wondering why nobody (Shawshank included) decided to take position on Nov 25th. It’s a pretty weak lineup so a strong movie would do well, your product is in stores before black Friday and you don’t have to compete for the scraps left in the Dark Knight’s wake. Instead tons and tons of discs are fighting for other crowded dates or worse are pushed past Christmas? Why?
And as a reward for Warner not screwing up this release, I vow to not utter a single negative word about them until at least the new year.

well the epic wait is finally over (the UK release that I already have notwithstanding)
I remember well that lonely insert in one of my first HD DVDs.
coming soon 2006: "The Shawshank Redemption"
well I guess Warner has finally delivered the goods.
(btw: the reviewer most likely doesn't have the UK disc for comparison, but there is NO dTS-MA track on the import so that obviously is a major minus right there)
I too would like to know if the video is the same however.
I'll be getting this one also because I didn't realize there was no lossless on the uK release when I ordered it.
sounds like another great release from Warner.
first TDK, now Shawshank..
what will the haters do?
btw: I sure hope some actual stores get this one unlike JFK which is still MIA where I live.
