Default 'Hancock' - High-Def Digest Review

Peter has reviewed 'Hancock.' Like many, he says the film is a disappointing
hodgepodge (the film has a 38% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes). This Blu-ray sports fine video and audio, but pretty weak extras. Give it a rent.

As I said before, the right Director would've completely turned it around, Peter Berg (The Kingdom) wasn't right for this. I did expect at least 4.5's on A&V.

I did enjoy and will pick it up. Thank God, I got one of those free Hancock BD Preview from Best Buy.

I still can't believe they went with this Cover. The WORST cover I've ever seen.

Will Smith jumped the shark with this movie.

I agree, that is an awful looking cover.

Jumped the shark with Hancock? How quickly we’ve forgotten Wild Wild West.

Do you really think another director would have made this any better? The story just didn't work, and there were numerous characters that were outright mis-cast.

The director is basically in charge of getting performances out of the actors and setting up shots. I don't think improvements in either area would have made up for the disappointing narrative.

The first half of this movie was really entertaining (certainly blew my low expectations out of the water), however the last half sucked balls. Its a pity too, cause Smith, Theron and Bateman are all great actors and the idea for this movie was pretty cool and original.

Frankly, I don't know why everyone is so quick to trash this movie. I enjoyed it and am looking forward to this Blu-ray disk. It's not perfect, but it is a lot of fun and has some terrific CGI scenes. (I saw Hancock in the theaters as a "two-fer" with Wall-E, which I was hugely disappointed by; one of the most overrated movies of the year. Let the flame wars begin...)

from a West Indian perspective...when i was in Trinidad and this released earlier this year, (i still want to see this film), it got a bad review for it's social message about blacks.

I just found it interesting, I myself am not black, and I'm not looking to insinuate any racist hatred... but it was interesting that the black movie reviewer writing the article thought it was a racist movie.

ex. how Will Smith's character was the typical bad black guy... lazy, a drunk, and likes white women.

I was interested to see if anyone else perceived such things

I thought it was a good role for Smith but like the review states,, poorly executed.

Are you crazy? This movie deserves a lot higher than 2.5. Sure, I wouldn't go beyond a 3.5, but definitely not anything lower than a 3. It was a fantastic movie, it just did not have as much action as I expected. Nevertheless, it was still very enjoyable with great acting and an interesting plot. It is funny though, the same people who bash this are the ones that praised No Country for Old Men even thought the movie was about nothing and nothing happened.
