Default 'Dead Space: Deadfall' - High-Def Digest Review

Ken has reviewed 'Dead Space: Deadfall,' a videogame spin-off that he says could make for some Halloween fun, particularly if you're a fan of the game. This Blu-ray was a pleasant surprise, with a proficient video transfer, notable TrueHD audio, and a few supplements. Worth a look.

Its good to see a solid review for this movie. I just beat the game tonight, and now I can't wait to pick up the Blu Ray.

Game was awesome, comics were awesome....guess I'll give this a rent to see if it's worth buying.

To those of you who've watched it, are there any references to the characters in the comics? You can put your answers in spoiler tags so that other people won't mind.

Hey, Ken - is Isaac in the movie? And if so, is he still a mute?

I just wrapped this bad boy up, and I was impressed!

Film Roman was responsible for the animation, and they pulled it of nicely, considering it's actually American anime. I usually hate on American style anime. This sort of reminded me of Aeon Flux and "Dark Fury".

The sound kicked ass and I'd rank it higher than the PQ.

Now I gotta go out and buy the game!

As more of a casual gamer at my current age of 35 I have to say Dead Space is the first game I've tried for PS3 that I can't quit playing and the first I have every intention of actualy playing all the way to the end. Glad to hear the movie gets good marks but I must finish the game before I watch it.

Kenneth, BTW, It's "Downfall", not "Deadfall". Correct that shit.

That was all Mike on that one.

Still, let me know if I labeled it as "Deadfall" anywhere in my review and I'll fix it ASAP.

It's at the top of the thread, actually it's in the thread title.

"Dead Space: Deadfall", no, not in your review but the heading.

EDIT---Gotcha, I was wondering who Mike was.

Yeah Atterberry mis labeled the thread.

You see his ship approaching the Ishimura at the end, but you never see him. You only hear from the pilot. I imagine Isaac's sitting on the bridge though in all his detached silence.

By the by, when are videogame designers going to realize a silent protagonist makes the character feel less realistic? I know the prevailing logic is it allows the player to identify themselves as the main character, but I'd much rather see a well-defined character displaying emotions as madness and tragedy erupts all around them. Sigh, Isaac's silence is one of the only problems I have with the game and its story.

It's obviously not too big of a deal though -- I'm currently plowing through the game a second time on Impossible mode.

The movie was a great setup to the game.

Agree. Although some games do go the lengths like Mass Effect. You choose a response and your character will say it.
