Default 'Die Another Day' - High-Def Digest Review

Ken has reviewed 'Die Another Day.' He says the movie is a disaster, but this Blu-ray delivers excellent video, near-reference quality lossless audio, and plenty of supplements. Bad flick, good disc.

Default This is worse than Timothy Dalton's Bond!!!

I agree with his summation of Die Another Day 150%!!! This is the one film that has actually managed to sink lower on the Bond scale than even Timothy Dalton's films! The unthinkable has happened. And out of all the Bonds to put Halle Berry in, she appears in this laughable oddity! Even if her role throughout the whole movie required her to be completely nude, it still couldn't have saved this horrendous, Titanic-sinking failure.

While I certainly agree that Die Another Day is a terrible movie, the statement that it was "a failure that nearly destroyed the Bond franchise" isn't quite correct. In fact, it was the highest grossing of all the Bond films to that point. Perhaps a clarification that it was an "artistic failure" might be appropriate?

For some reason, the worst Bond films often do the best business. At the time of its release, Moonraker was also the highest grossing Bond film.

@ utl

60% is hardly good.

Never was a fan of Brosnan's films (I didn't like any of them), but this one stunk beyond belief.

I actually thankful for this film, because without this "artistic disaster" we wouldn't have had the reboot that is Casino Royale.

You know, this might come as an "ugly" response. But if you truly dislike Dalton as Bond, then you are insulting Ian Fleming. Dalton played Bond most realistically to what was written in the books.

I think you're right there. While I found the beginning storyline of the film to be interesting, it was a shame that they didn't pursue it further. I think it would have been interesting to show Bond as a captured agent, trying to escape and with the world after him. But that only lasted like 20 min. of the movie, and then they proceeded to the known quantity that the series is known for, and with all the cheese. Personally, I thought Brosnan was showing his age at that point and sort of spent whatever Bond quality he had in Goldeneye. I thought Halle Berry was a fine Bond girl, but not cast against Brosnan, he was just too old for her. Same problem I had with the girl from Starship Troopers in his other film.

I didn't think Dalton was a bad Bond, he was just the victum of some badly written films. I think that was the problem with most of the series through the 80-90's, and didn't really get fixed till Casino Royale.

Rotten Tomatoes sucks for reviews, period. Their biggest problem is they're purely black and white on reviews, so the review is either good or bad, nothing in between.

It's easy to say the movie was good with a 4 or 5 star rating from a critic, and bad with a 1 or 2 star rating, but what about a 3 star rating? The critic neither liked it, nor hated it, yet I'm sure some critics who gave a movie 3 stars were counted as negative, and others as positive.

So how is it either a negative or positive review then?

Metacritic is a much better tool for finding a general consensus, as they actually account for the degrees of a review.

I totally disagree with this review. It should have received 1 star instead of 1 1/2. It not only jumped the shark but the shark also jumped over it.

As for highest grossing if you do adjusted box office it would be Thunderball according to this:
