Default 'L.A. Confidential' - High-Def Digest Review

Josh has reviewed 'L.A. Confidential.' He says it's a masterpiece. This Blu-ray has strong video and audio and an excellent assortment of supplements. HIGHLY recommended.

I wonder why WB can't just do this with all of their films.

HD extras, lossless audio. Is it really too much to ask? Instead we get 1 good release amidst 5 others with DD 640.

LA Confidential was one of the first DVDs I bought and it truly is a masterpiece.
Since this release is good I'm probably going to get it as that DVD was completely bare-bones.

This is a great film and I'm happy to see it got the right treatment. I can now unwrap the disc and watch it. Thanks Josh!

exact same here. I am one who doesn't generally delve into special features so passed on the 2-disc version of the movie as the original release has served me well.. looks like it might finally be time to upgrade.

easily one of the best films from the 1990's, and one of my all-time favorites(Top 20 for sure!)

I'm glad I wasn't the only one turned off a bit with the opening visual quality.

I love this movie, and it was preordered, opened, and watched before I read a review on it. The last copy I had was on VHS and had never bought it on DVD. I think the video is actually 3 or 3.5, but this movie is too good not to buy on Blu-ray.

GREAT FILM!!!!

This BD is worth it, just to get the pilot from the aborted television show, which is a prequel of sorts.

Here's a thought... If L.A. Confidential had gone ahead as a tv show, there'd be no Kiefer Sutherland as Jack Bauer... Think about that one.

The only thing I don't like about this disc, is the cheap main menu, which is nothing more than a page of text. Even old crappy DVDs have some nice presentation on them, and a little extra effort to support the disc.

I work in DVD menu design, and I like to see as much effort put into every element of my expensive BD package, and that includes the menus...

A page of text is 5 minutes work in photoshop !

Perhaps there could be room for a line or two about disc presentation in future reviews.

What's kind of funny is that Kiefer plays the role in the pilot episode a lot more like Jack Bauer than like Jack Vincennes. He even does the little huffing breaths thing when he gets agitated. It's hilarious.

I had to turn off the TV pilot after about 15-20 minutes. It was just too forced. I thought Sutherland was wrong in the part. And I kept feeling it should be called "Young L.A. Confidential." BUt I did enjoy the movie more this time (seems toget better each time) and I thought it was had excellent PQ. I was glad to see they expanded on the extras, rather than just those fromt the original DVD. It's a good buy.
