Default 'The Omen (1976)' - High-Def Digest Review

Kenneth has reviewed the original version of 'The Omen.' He says it's a true horror classic. This Blu-ray features faithfully remastered video and audio, and an enormous supplemental package. Recommended.

So this movie isn't on my high priority for upcoming releases but hey, it is at least a buy in the future. If it goes on amazon for like 14.95, I'll pick it up real quick. Good review

I watched this myself tonight and it looked much better than I thought it would. When they get to Megiddo there are some wide city shots that are amazingly sharp and detailed.

The sound was ok, but it got a bit tinny at times and felt very processed.

Also no bookmark ability. All BDs that load java should have this by now.

I got the box set which has really flimsy packaging even worse than Battlestar Gqlactic HD DVD.

Recommended overall, at least the original film.

this is one of them films I will never get. I guess one must be at least somewhat religious christian, and preferable a catholic one at that to fully appreciate it..

anyways, good to see they are getting such momentum on the classics and not just used it as a quick catalgue filler at the start. and doing a good job with it too it seams.

Never seen this, but now I think I will, as its seems like Fox has put together a heck of a disc. But for now, I'll be picking up Poltergiest! Craig T. Nelson FTW!!!

I'm in no way religious, and I loved all of the movies. I didn't like the remake near as much.

You should watch all of the movies before laying judgment on the series. It's all very well done.

Not sure why you say "too bad" about the quality. The Omen looks fantastic on blu-ray, and has never, EVER looked this good on home video before. It's a treat to see it presented like this, especially with the wealth of extras. And all for $22 on Amazon, to boot.

Very happy to own this.

Kenneth thanks for the review, one question though, is the audio surround mix TRUE stereo? Is the scdore in true stereo with horns in the right violins in left, panned effects, ect...or is it one of those simulated stereo soundtracks?

It's a surround track (5.1), not stereo. There's a little bit of movement but the rears aren't all that active.

I tend to agree with the reviewer, I preferred the original mono track better for some reason. The remix was well done, but sometimes they boost sound effects so much to make it seem more modern that you cover up some of the dialogue.

I'm an agnostic. I just think it's a well-made film.

Your sentiments reflect my opinion of The Exorcist however. I don't get why people think that movie is so scary. I just downloaded it in HD from the PSN store and I had the same reaction I had when I saw it as a teenager, "Meh". The Omen kicks it's ass if you ask me.

I seriously doubt anyone not getting Omen will see it in a new light after finishing Omen 4, other than it ("Omen 1") looking better than before by comparison I mean.

but disregarding that, I have seen at least one of the sequels (which is what it is, not a series) too and it did not impair my passed judgement.
Spoiler:
<--sorry about that, I just wanted the "judgement" bit in a godlike thundering voice.

it is. I just do not find it either interesting or scary since I cannot relate to the basic subject enough. now I'm not saying one must believe in everything one sees for it to work, but for some people some subjects just require another standard or take on the subject to suspend the disbelief. (as is so commonly pointed out in reviews and all)

agree, but that one didn't do it for me eithher. nor did Constantine. well, except for Tilda then.
