You're probably right. It sounds like you know a lot more about it. For some reason I remember seeing a making of special on a disc of friends where they showed the show being shot and edited, and I remember someone pulling a filmstrip out...and I thought....is that 16mm? It looks really small compared to 35mm...but I don't have the seasons anymore...traded them long ago. So I can't verify. If it says somewhere that it was 35mm that would definitely make for a better Blu-Ray transfer.

I would buy the entire Friends series in a heartbeat, and it's one of the few that price wouldn't be a factor!

About 2 years ago I came across an article where a production company was working on re-editing the shows for HD and apparently the seasons were shot in 16:9 but matted to 4:3 for television.
Just as evidenced with Everybody Loves Raymond...the first 3 seasons were in 4:3 on broadcast and on DVD but the HD airings on TBS are opened up 16:9 and look fantastic. Both produced on the Warner lot so I won't be surprised to see the show released in 16:9. Great news to hear rumblings now.
Some proof of Raymond from Season 1, I'm looking for the Friends article currently..
