Default 'The Godfather Collection' - High-Def Digest Review

Peter's review of 'The Godfather Collection' is up. He says the films need no recommendation, they're classics of American cinema. The video on this Blu-ray set surpasses any previous video versions of the films. The audio is good, if lacking in impact. The package is topped off with hours and hours of top notch supplements. This is one you can't refuse.

Great review.

I'd give film quality 5 stars.

And I'd give Godfather Part III like 3 stars. But the first two are just that good, so I'd feel obliged to give it 5 stars anyway. Also, very in depth PQ analysis, thanks!

Yeah I know. I'm out of town all next week anyways and get paid on Friday so I'll probably order it then anyways.

It's great to see parts I and II get 4 stars, especially since it's been over thirty years. However, any word on stand-alones for I and II?

Godfather 3 is far better than its given credit for. Sophia Coppola isnt a great actress, but she isnt nearly as bad as she's made out to be. I dont know what the reviewers problem was with the Opera scene, I think it was great.

Amen.

I have been a defender of III for... ever. I honestly don't understand why it is so shunned.

If the Godfather title weren't attached, it would probably be considered a great movie.

As for this review; I am so glad the release is receiving high marks. I have been looking forward to this pretty much since it was announced. But given the quality of the DVD set, I was afraid the BD release would be a bit of a letdown.

Glad to see I was wrong.

This is what HD IS ALL ABOUT. Getting the best possible version of some of the best movies ever. Preserving film history by restoring it and putting it out in a format that can preserve it.

Can't wait.

can't wait to read the barrage of posts regarding how "soft" these films look.

I don't even own these on DVD, so this is the no-brainer of the year.

Results of the official recount: 120 , 122 . I'm even more shocked.
Heavily into necrophilia - still enjoying 'dead' HD DVDs.

Proper grain structure FTW.

I've never seen any of these movies yet (yes, shame on me), but what I've seen of these restorations so far really pleases me. Touched up in every aspect, but never too much, and film grain everywhere. It seems really faithful to what an early '70s movie should look like.
