Default 'Cool Hand Luke' - High-Def Digest Review

Peter's review of 'Cool Hand Luke' is up. He says the film is a classic. This Blu-ray is strong, with excellent video and some new supplements. Audio is mono only (owing to the source). Worth a look.

Kurt Vonnegut's 'Catch-22' and 'Slaughterhouse Five.'

FYI, Joseph Heller wrote Catch-22.

1.0 Dolby Digital?

What would be wrong with a mono 2.0 track?

If you have any form of Dolby ProLogic engaged, a mono 2.0 track will be matrixed into the center channel anyway.

Very good to hear about the PQ... Not too worried about the AQ for this one. I'll be picking it up.

WTF is the Mono not PCM? Criterion doesn't even have the budget of Warner and either one or BOTH of the films they're going to put out on BR have Mono PCM. I doubt it takes up anything for space really. I don't understand Warner's complete laziness here.

I found this movie a complete surprise. I honestly had no idea what I was buying when I POed it. Money well spent.

I already watched it twice this week since I got it on Wednesday

In the review it's said Newman was escaping to visit his ailing mother. At that point, I think she was already dead, right?

Just a minor detail, but he was just running, not necessarily to anywhere or to anyone.

The quality really is good for a film 40 years old. I think the movie holds up well to time. If it were made today in just the same way, it would still be hailed as a great movie, IMO.

I was always under the impression that he was trying to get to where she was buried. To pay his respects since he missed her funeral.

That could be, but at one point in the film he tells Dragline that he's never planned anything in his whole life. I just thought that he was escaping over and over simply to show that he wasn't going to be stopped. Luke constantly thumbed his nose at rules, regulations, and those in "control". Freddy

So I'm guessing everyone concurs with me on Warner not putting Mono PCM on here?

I found no problem with the sound, if I did, the greatness of the movie took care of it
