Default 'Deja Vu' - High-Def Digest Review

Just posted Peter's review of 'Deja Vu.' He found the film itself a bit outlandish, but if you enjoy your police procedurals combined with eyebrow-raising science fiction conceits, this one's for you. It certainly delivers as a Blu-ray release, with great video and audio and an interesting faux-"In-Movie Experience" supplement.

Yes! I was really hoping this movie would get a high score, and it did.

Buena Vista is great when it comes to high-def!

Now, I just need $25 to buy the movie. :P

Does anyone know if the Deleted Scenes/Extended Scenes are in HD/1080p?

It appears that ALL the video on the disc is in 1080p. I know that the review didn't stipulate anything other than the in-movie experience was, but I checked out a pic of the back of the Blu-ray box online, and under both FEATURE and BONUS, it says "1080p high-definition".

Default Wrong Stats

There is a mistake on your listed video codec. This title is a high bitrate VC-1 code (peaking above 40Mbps). The aspect ratio is 2.40:1...not 2.35:1.

*Classic MAD...only giving you half the story (Silverback, James, etc)

Also Peter referred to the technology's name as "Cinderella" ...it was named "Snow White" in the movie because of the supposed "7 satellites" used for the technology ...at least thats what the guy tried to explain/lie to Denzel Washington's character at the beginning.

Your getting awful close to a spoiler there. I'm renting it, and if the story is in my liking and the pq is as good as reviewed I may look into this title...

Default Great News!

Glad that the PQ and SQ are high! Saw this at the theatre and enjoyed it for what it was: a fun "pop corn" movie. The trailer on the front of King Arthur DC gives a nice indication as to how good this movie can look in HD. Should receive it in the next couple days.

Have you guys seen the Planet Earth discs yet? Had mine last Saturday. The PQ and SQ are amazing! Best yet on Blu Ray as far as I'm concerned. Truly jaw dropping...

Default A measure of disagreement and some very vague spoilers

Hi, I'm new here, but I felt I should register just to say a few words. I generally like and agree with Peter's reviews, and I don't think 'Deja Vu' is a very good movie. But...
I've only seen the movie once, and even I can tell that Peter's completely misunderstood the technology behind the 'Snow White' device (not 'Cinderella', he didn't even get the name right, bad sign). I counted three concrete complaints in the review about the technical plausibility of certain plot points. One complaint is simply not true (a big sequence in the movie exists precisely because it isn't true), another is about the plot point that's the basis for the entire movie and couldn't exactly be removed (sort of like complaining that mutants don't really have superpowers - it's true, but if you're gonna watch X-Men, you'll just have to suspend your disbelief about some things), and the third plot point is actually mentioned in the movie itself and later shown to be completely logical in light of what we learn.
Now, I said the movie really isn't all that good, and I agree with a lot of the other general things Peter mentioned, including the clunky plot and lack of focus. But when he tried to pick specific examples, he let on that he wasn't really paying attention, and immediately lost authority. And it annoys me when bad movies get panned for the wrong reasons, because it's lazy. There were plenty of flaws to pick from. He didn't have to make them up.
