Default ’The Forbidden Kingdom’ - High-def Digest Review

Ken's review of ’The Forbidden Kingdom’ has been posted. He's sort of disappointed by this first pairing of Jackie Chan and Jet Li. This Blu-ray features excellent video and sound and some solid supplements. Worth a look.

Spot on review. I have been waiting for this pair-up for a long time...did NOT like this film at all and it was pretty disappointing that the very first colab between these two masters was wasted on such a cliche'd plot. The whole Neverending Story feel was pretty lame, and the ending is VERY predictable. I'm sure families will dig this one, but not me.

I really enjoyed this movie.

While it is nothing special i found it an enjoyable experience.

The only bit i did not like was the golden monkey parts but apart from that it was alright and i will be buying it.

The Pic quality from the review sounds damn good so that is cool

Default Boom Operator on TFK

Greetings:

I'm new to this site/forum having being directed here via DVDSavant.

I was surprised to find this particular movie being reviewed during my first visit, as I was the boom operator on "The Forbidden Kingdom."

I still haven't seen the picture as I was working on another movie ("Cirque Du Freak") in New Orleans when TFK came out in theaters.

I wonder if some of the BR visual issues have anything to do with the fact that both film (Panavision) and digital (Genesis) cameras were used during production?

Regardless, you seem like a nice bunch around here and I'm happy to have joined in the fun.

Welcome to the forums Huck. For what it's worth I thought FK was a great film. Plus it was awesome seeing Jet and Jackie together finally.

I thought the movie was really good. Despite it's silliness and whatnot. You knew that coming in, if you didn't you got what you deserve.

Silliness? The whole entire movie was just plain silly to me. I saw this in the theaters and I was majorly dissappointed. For the first Jackie Chan/Jet Li movie, they could've done so much better!

So I got what I deserved because I thought it was silly? Explain to me how so? Two of the most renowned martial arts actors finally team up and make a 'C' grade movie...
It was like Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon meets Karate Kid.

I am not knocking anyone else for liking his movie, I am just saying I personally was dissappointed. If you liked it, more power to you! I'm not too fond of the Karate Kid movies, so that is probably part of the reason why I didn't like this one.

Ah well, the cool part was seeing the fight sequence between Li and Chan.

You do know it's based on a Chinese legend right, the monkey king.

You people want to know why this movie turned out to be crap? It's a Wuxia movie that's American made. If that didn't kill it the fact that it's all in English would.
I remember seeing the trailer for this movie and being interested until I saw Angarano. I want a real Wuxia movie with Li and Chan, not an American made product putting both in it. If Lion's Gate were smart they would've just taken the existing script, put Angarano in it speaking English in the beginning, then when he's taken back it would be spoken entirely in Mandarin or Cantonese including from Angarano. Oh and it would've been filmed out to a Chinese company to shoot.

The good PQ and AQ on the BD will not save this movie because of its content imho for most people. Glad I decided to rent it. It would offer very little replay value for me. Who knows though as we all have different tastes. Strong rec to rent it first if you haven't seen it. Get the popcorn and beverage ready. It isn't bad but that helped matters for me during viewing!

I'm not sure what you guys expected? From the trailer alone It didn't shy away from being a US made Chinese kid flick. Some of you guys are being really hard on it like it was supposed to be the second coming of Christ. Does the movie have flaws? Yes of course, but cut it some slack. Even the kid Michael Angarano who I thought I was going to hate, I found myself liking. As movie fans/buffs since when did we become so jaded? What happen to just enjoying a movie for what it is, maybe that's why I loved D-Wars, Cloverfield, Doomsday and Shoot Em' Up. I'm not trying to change anyone's mind about it, You're going to like what you like no matter what anyone says, but I mean come on try and have a little fun with these type of films. I don't know to each his own I guess.
