Thank you Zebra, I didn't know that's what aliasing was. That was exactly what I was talking about.

If I had time I would have circled those areas and reposted the screencaps.

No problem. It's "aliasing" as I understand the term. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong.

I always play this "Where's Waldo?" game with Xylon's screen caps. "Where's the differences?" "Why am I not seeing the differences?" "Am I blind?" Then, after the requisite amount of time, it eventually pops out like one of 3-D Eye stereogram pictures. "Oh, it's The Statue of Liberty!"

Suggestion: markups could help those of us who have a less trained eye.

The biggest difference I see between Xylon's latest enlarged screenshots is the difference in the woman's face...the HD DVD has noticeable jaggies along her lit side and the BD does not.

However, I am not at liberty to say a technique was not applied to the BD version to correct this (ie it wasnt because of a space difference) and as we all likely agree, the difference is almost not there when the film is in motion on most screens...hell, it took a super enlarged HD screen capture still for us to notice something that is barely noticeable.

Now that you've pointed it out, I see it. However, it must be noted that, like all of Michael Bay movies, the action scenes in Transformers are edited so that no single shot remains on screen for more than 1.5 seconds. Any difference that requires a requisite amount of time to notice in a zoomed-in freeze frame will be impossible to see during regular playback.

I don't think that would pass muster in the Grand Theft Auto IV threads over in Game Smackdown. It's 400% or nothing over there.

True. And the the observations posted by members in this thread support that.

Proves my point actually

As for Blu-Ray vs HD DVD. There really is little if no difference. But the format war is over so at this point we would just be splitting hairs..

HDM FTW!!!!
I wish it was. After a couple of months with blu-ray, I see for a fact that HD DVD was much better tech. All players were equally updateable, the discs loaded MUCH faster and menus and such were much faster and smoother. I don't remember and HD DVD EVER having a loading screen and pretty much every single blu-ray does (especially Disney movies).

PQ and AQ are equal. Functionality: HD DVD won hands down.

But you're right, the "war" is over. I love blu-ray, I just wish the load times and menu functionality were faster/smoother.

If you look at certain parts of Bonecrusher, on BD he is ever so slightly sharper. Look at anywhere there is a shadow and a crease! Very very minute.
