maybe michael bay would care to enlighten us how the picture is soo much better now than it was on last years release, cause looking at the pictures there really is no difference i can see.
dont get me wrong i love bluray but with all the blustering he has done over the past year, about when this comes to bluray how much better it will look, in the end there really isnt to much of visually noticeable difference.

Why would there be much of a difference if any since the HD DVD was a really good transfer?

Michael Bay posted on his site multiple times that Transformers would be better on Blu-Ray.

Bay had a few public meltdowns over it. I was going to see if he's made any comments on his forum but it's closed, shocked he hasn't issued a press release or something.

Yes. Upscaled standard definition DVD. This is what you "see" on a upconverting player.

No match for real high-defintion PQ. Details, details, details.

Bay is looking at the masters in the studio with professional equipment and if he says the blu-ray version is closer to the master then who are we to argue?

HD-DVD

Blu Ray

HD-DVD is still a great transfer, but the blu ray version, technically, is better, the higher bit-rate yields finer detail and Bay was correct to say that the blu version would be better. I wouldn't call him an idiot.

People watching at home with average sized displays may not see a difference. If we dig a little deeper however, there is a difference and that difference vindicates Michael Bays comments.

Who wouldn't want the version that's closer to master with the least compression???

Be very wary of studio or someone there telling you that this product is better or best because they say so. Let's start from the beginning . . . . . . .

"Experience(sic) High Definition with The Fifth Element Blu-ray release"

BTW how far did you Zoom the screenshots?

Do you guys want to see a blind A/B comparison ala Nature's Journey?

No one is ignoring bitrates. Especially in my threads. It goes together with HD transfers. You can't ignore one for the other.

"Double bitrates" is nice. But if you pair that up with a crappy transfer. The final product will still be crappy.

You can't hide it even if you "triple" the bitrates.

Yep, I'm seeing macroblocking in the HD DVD version of the action shot as well (look at the flames, especially on the... other robot's foot), but would I notice it in motion? Who knows. I've never watched the film, and gods willing, I never will.
