'Belly' - High-Def Digest Review

No kidding. The ONLY good part was the speech that black man made at the end. Also does anyone know the name of the chick who plays the assassin in this? I'd like to find pics of her.

I actually liked this movie....Although the visuals were so stylized that it makes judging the picture difficult....This movie isnt for everyone though, but for those that enjoy the genre or liked the movie before, I would say pick this one up.....

I havent seen any listing for her and I dot think she is listed in the Credits, Ill have to re-check though...

EDIT: I just done reading the review...All I have to say is wow .....Kinda disappointed that it getting dinged for dialogue he couldnt\didnt understand. I can understand if the dialogue was totally mubble mouthed, but really, they ONLY thing you may have trouble with is the Jamaican patois, which if you are unfamiliar with can be hard to understand. They made the mistake of not putting subs in there for those who cant understand it though (they did have them later on, when they were in Jamaica.

Also, Josh, you took it a step too far with the slang you used for the other parts of the review. IMO they were uncalled for and I know some people would be offended by their inclusion. If it has to do with specs keep it simple and to the point, there is no need to add the extras that you did.

Also, to say this had no kind of story line would be a mistake as well. I could at least GUESS that what was happening was that Hype was showing the good and bad of living the "hood life", that is made so popular these days. That even the most violent people can be "redeemed" if shown the "right path". In this case it was Tommy (stereotypical thug) leading a life of death and crime, in the end he finds the "right path" through the minister..The old Tommy would have shot him cold without hesitation, now that he sees just how wrong his life was, he seeks "redemption". I also dont feel that he was glorifying the violence\"thug life" as josh put it. It was needed to show that almost every violent action has a violent reaction and that it can lead to nothing good in the end. If you are going to say they are glorifying the violence in this movie, I would have to add Goodfellas and Casino as well. They both glorifed the violent characters\actions in the film

I do feel that he went a step to far with the dialog at the end (Nas speaking) and should of ended it with the Minister\Tommy meeting.

To say this movie didnt have a storyline would be wrong. It wasnt a 5 star movie, but it definately I think the point was missed by Josh in this case.

As I said before this movie isnt for everyone, but if you are a fan of the genre or the movie itself its worth a look\rent.

Just as a note, the ideas above are entirely my own, and may not be factually correct.

...Interesting review. While I have to agree to some extent, did you really find the film *that* hard to follow? I saw this when I was 16 and could follow it fine. Huh

I could not agree more! I don't think it was any secret prior to this review that Josh was my fave reviewer at this site (don't worry Kenneth, you come a close second) but this only proves why. On a site with so much doom, gloom, and smackdowns (more so when the format war was really waging), it's nice to see somebody liven it up (even if it's at the expense of a movie ). After the whole Transformers debacle, it's nice to have this to balance it out - and I'm glad so far that people have responded to it as positively as I have (such as the quote above proves). Thank you, and although such humor is not necessary for every review, it was a very pleasant surprise and very fitting given the horrendous qualities of this movie (in my opinion that is, and apparently Josh's as well). To sum it up: I agree, +1.

i am a huge fan of this movie and saw the crappy sequel ft the Lame i mean the game poster and was like wow that movie is going to be the next lost boys tribe and was thinking to myself when will the original come out on blu. I went to this site and found it it was like in two at the time. I waited patienly and was almost discouraged by the bluray.com review but decided to get it anyways. I hunted it down on release date to find out it was online only found it at walmart and ordered it. It came a few days ago the same day my 2nd ps3 died so i was on the hunt for mgs4 bundle and had to settle for a new crippled 80 gig but back to the op the movie is a must buy for fans of the movie it looks like im one of the few that loved this movie and glad to see it make a hi def debut and it will be watched many more times now OnLy in hidef
