Default 'Old School' -- pre-release buzz

A year after it hit HD DVD, Paramount will bring 'Old School' to Blu:

http://bluray.highdefdigest.com/oldschool.html

Extras mirror the previous release, with audio commentary, a featurette, deleted scenes, gag reel and easter egg.

No tech specs yet, but they should also compare to the HD DVD.

Retail is $29.98, and street date December 16.

The first two sentences of this news item:

"Over a year since it hit HD DVD, DreamWorks has announced plans to bring the comedy 'Old School' to Blu-ray in mid-December.

Starring Vince Vaughn and Will Ferrell, the $75 million-grossing frat boy smash will arrive on Blu-ray on December 16 in its 92-minute unrated form, over a year after it first hit HD DVD."

I get the feeling that some on this site really, REALLY miss HD DVD.

Go Blue!!!

I am happy to have this come out. but more importantly, I am happy Dreamworks convinced Paramount to release it at a very reasonable $29.99 list price. Paramount has been notorious for release virtually every movie title at $39.99.

Lets hope good sales for this will prove a lower list price and on sale price will result in higher sales and better adoption of the format

Um, no they haven't (and they aren't). Paramount prices most catalogs at $29.99 MSRP.... almost always has. Before going HD exclusive many of their films could be had for $19.99 @ Fry's and the like.

Most of their titles are priced very reasonably. It's only "recent" (as in a few months since the DVD) films that get the $39.99 price tag because they are 'new'.... and pricing new stuff at ~ $40 isn't something out of the norm - about half of the studios price their new films at that price.

^^ second that
HD had the luxury of 19.99 catalog titles and 27.99 new releases.

You mite be confusing Paramount with Fox

I have the HD DVD version of this and although I really enjoy the movie, I wouldn't recommend spending more than $20, $25 max, or so on a bluray copy. The picture quality wasn't that much more of an improvement to justify spending much more.

"Well, um, actually a pretty nice little Saturday, we're going to go to Home Depot. Yeah, buy some wallpaper, maybe get some flooring, stuff like that. Maybe Bed, Bath, & Beyond, I don't know, I don't know if we'll have enough time."

Its Universal not Paramount that have been doing the packs on Blu.
