Default 'Heroes: Season One' - High-Def Digest Review

Peter's review of 'Heroes: Season One' has been posted. He thinks it just may be the only TV comic book series that's ever been any good. This Blu-ray soars, with nice video, ever so slightly boosted and audio, and top notch supplements. Recommended.

Sounds nice but I won't be jumping to replace my HD DVD set.

Also, I'd like to know is the original, unaired pilot in HD on this set? It's kind of confusing, the intro to the extras says that all of the extras are in 480i MPEG-2 and then immediately below Peter starts talking about the Pilot episode (w/out any mention of being the lone HD extras or something to that effect.)

I know that (at least on the HD DVD) the unaired pilot is actually 1080p/VC-1... just like a regular episode of the series. It also had 1.5 Mbps DD+. Does the pilot have DTS-HD MA?

Default Just a few errors.

Peter there is a mention of the 'seven discs' in the special feature section. It's supposed to be five discs. Copy/Paste error I'd guess.

And there are a few references to the HD DVD having standard dolby digital... it in fact had Dolby Digital Plus @ 1.5 Mbps.

It seems Peter is trying to erase DD+ from the history books.

Heya

Sorry about not noting the pilot format. It is indeed in full 1080p/VC-1 HD on the set.

I've updated the review.

PeterB, do you remember what disc the Download Portal was? Was it disc 1, I must have been tired when I was looking for it, or it's not showing on mine. Any help would be great, thanks. All I saw was that BD-Live would launch later, but the disc was enabled and ready for the future.

I kind of remember the first specs of this release including Spanish (Latin American) subtitles. Even Amazon lists them. The HD DVD did not have them, which is the reason why I hold off on buying it.

Does this version include spanish subtitles??? Please let us know!! Thanks!

EDIT: Am I also the only one seeing each one of the tech specs repeated twice?

Yes that's true. I'll take Peter's word for it that the DTS-HD MA is a slight improvement, but the statements "lack of high-res audio" and "standard Dolby Digital" when referring to the HD DVD are what makes me complain. As you noted, the Dolby Digital-Plus track is high-res audio (albeit obviously not lossless), and running at 1.5mp/s no less. On the other hand, I guess I feel a little like I'm beating a dead horse.

He neglected several ommisions that are not present on the Blu-ray:
The "Helix Revealed" U-Control has been removed.
Genetic Mind Games has been removed.
And the Genetic Test thing might not be there as its not mentioned on the back of the package and there is no way to tell because the BD-Live function does not work as of yesterday afternoon.

Interesting to see it holds the same Special Features score for both BD and HD even with the removed features... but at least he bumped up the HD Audio score on the BD review to reflect BD's superiority.

Thanks for the good review peter. Doesn't look like I need to replace my HD copy, I couldn't really imagine the DD+ getting any better for a TV show at least.

Good thing to see the Specs corrected and updated! I was refreshing the page 2 times a day ^_^ Seems there are spanish subtitles in there!

I guess I'll just go ahead and get it for once.
