'Wild China' - High-Def Digest Review

Ken has reviewed 'Wild China.' He says it's another winning documentary from the BBC. Unfortunately, this Blu-ray is loaded with a disappointing video transfer, an underwhelming audio track, and few supplements. Rent it first. This could be worth your money, but get the BBC's other productions first.

i wanted to see this one more than the others listed in the review, but the price is just prohibitive. 40 bucks (saw it at 40 at best buy, at msrp, what crap!) is just a tad pricey.

suppose i may get it when/if someone in the trade forums has it between 15 and 19. nice review

I thought it deserved more than 2.5 stars but the bar has been set high by PE. I did find disc 1 to be really interesting and haven't gotten the chance to watch disc 2.

Shame about the PQ. I picked this one up on holiday in the US last week, having seen it on TV in SD I thought it would definitely be worth buying on BD. Haven't had a chance to watch any of it yet, hopefully it will just be good enough to be worth the extra money.

I can't believe how wrong this review is. The PQ is gorgeous!

I got this about a month ago in the BBC High Definition Natural History Collection and was blown away by it. Yes it is only 1080i and a very few shots were SD (as were a few in Planet Earth), but it is fantastic.

Try watching the preview of 'Planet Earth' included on the 'Wild China' disc and you'll easily see how different the two look. It's fairly drastic.

Still, everyone's entitled to their opinion. I'm glad you enjoyed the PQ as much as you did! Thanks as always for posting.

The PQ rating makes me fear for the Torchwood boxset next month. The BBC boxsets are so expensive, it's very disappointing to find that the PQ is lacking on there recent releases (i.e. Robin Hood season 1).
