Default 'Transformers' - High-Def Digest Review

Peter's review of 'Transformers' has been posted. Let's cut to the chase, he says this Blu-ray is demo material. Highly recommended.

Very nice. Been looking forward to this review for a while. Nice to see the Blu-ray's TrueHD easily trumps the DD on the HD DVD.

You know, as a former HD DVD fanboi, I was proud to have this movie as an exclusive to the format I loved...until I saw it.

Actually the HD DVD version had Dolby Digital Plus and was highly touted for it's audio! So that's a mistake on Peter's part.

For one, the review states the HD DVD had standard DD which is false...secondly, it looks like he went back to the HD DVD review and changed the audio score to 4 stars...

Exactly. I would never diminish the fact that the blu has lossless, but he should not have tried to minimize the audio on the HD DVD, it was in fact DD+ at 1.5mbps and sounded quite good.

The movie, on the other hand, is SH!T.

Yep, it got four stars for its DDP audio, and the Blu-ray gets a perfect five for its TrueHD.

Wow... talk abotu ninja edits. I specifically remember the DD+ audio on the HD DVD to be bloody outstanding. It trumped plenty of discs TrueHD and DTS HD MA tracks. The BD version -might- be better, but it can't be by much.

It must have been recently ninja edited. It was 5 originally. It was considered the best disc for audio in 2007.

For me personally I thought the movie was kind of bleh. I think the reason is the robots dont look unique enough to me when they are transformed. Not to mention Megatron should have been a gun!

All bitching a side, its nice to see that their is a lossless audio track. Think I will update my copy later on when this one reaches the $15 bin.

Maybe they retroactively changed the score of the HD DVD audio in direct comparison to Blu's TrueHD soundtrack. I didn't see anywhere in the review where he knocked the quality of the mix on the HD DVD version. Far from it...But comparing the two together, lossless is going to be the better option of the two.

It was edited recently - now that he had a lossless track to compare it too - something he wished for back in Oct. when he originally reviewed it.

Gotta love the superior experience only a Blu-ray can provide.

I actually liked the movie a lot more than I thought I would. It's very entertaining, to say the least, even if it's not regarded as high brow. Up until the very end, it was the one reason I'd consider going HD DVD. Don't care much for Bourne. Wouldn't buy the format for Hot Fuzz, Heroes, etc....It was always Transformers for me.

Yes for sure. But it was still a 5 star track! It trumped the lossless audio on other films! As I said, I can't imagine it being -much- better.

I guess I was expecting more comparisions of the audio quality to the HD DVD.
