Default 'Smart People' - High-Def Digest Review

Kenneth's review of 'Smart People' has been posted. Reviews for the film have been split (It has 50% rating on Rotten Tomatoes), but he enjoyed it. This Blu-ray flaunts an excellent video transfer, underwhelming uncompressed audio, and a small, but meaty selection of supplements. Give it a spin.

Nice review Ken (I especially liked the intro).

I'll give this a peek. I was going to see Smart People is theaters but time got away from me and I had higher movie viewing priorties... this BD looks to be the perfect way to experience the film for a first viewing.

I compared the DVD and Blu-ray today, big difference. The DVD upconverted was no competition for the Blu-ray edition.

Good to know.... I love to hear when a BD completely outdoes it's SD counterpart.

I enjoyed this movie a great deal. I rented the DVD last night, maybe I'll pick up the Blu.

Hmmmm.....

What if I liked Royal Tenenbaums but not Juno or Lost in Translation? Maybe I'll rent it. If I feel like it.

Just finished watching it and the review says it all

I liked it but Little Miss Sunshine, Juno, and I Heart Huckabees were much better IMO

I personally didn't like Lost in Translation, so I guess its a coin toss if you like it or not lol

No wonder Rottentomatoes has this one at 50%

"Regardless, fans of ‘The Royal Tenenbaums,’ ‘Juno,’ and ‘Little Miss Sunshine’ will find a lot to love in this tale of dysfunction and misplaced love"

Def rental for me. The WSJ had a very similiar review so this was on my radar.

I loved Lost in Translation and liked the other's mentioned. Probably won't "love" this enough to buy it, but I am looking forward to a rental of the Blu.

I really liked this movie - although I'm not sure about the comparison to 'Juno' (Ellen Paige aside - it does not have the wanna-be hipsterness of that movie (and I liked Juno, too)), or too much "Lost in Translation". Definitely see "Little Miss Sunshine", "Tenenbaums", and maybe a hint of "The Savages", however.

Good to hear that the BD is a big upgrade over the DVD - I rented the DVD this week, and have the BD on order, since it doesn't seem to be anywhere in my area.

The 2.40:1 1080P picture quality is decent for an indie film, but it is certainly nothing to ride home about.

The 5.1 Uncompressed audio track is fairly quiet. Since this is a dialogue driven film, the audio track does not have much to do.

Though considering how RT takes reviews, wouldn't that mean it's a "love/hate" film?

But yeah, the film deserves 50%, 3 stars, or a C. The perfect sunday afternoon rental material.

I think that's what he was getting at...

Yeah it is def a hate it or love it thing

I watched it again, this time with my family and it was split:

Mom and I: Loved it
Dad and Brother: Hated it

So yeah...

I saw it with my friends and they were just as indifferent towards it as I was.

Though if I bought the Blu-ray, I'd probably be siding more with a negative view of it.
