Default 'The Doors' - High-Def Digest Review

'Ken has reviewed The Doors.' He say's it's a well made film, but not one that will appeal to everyone. This Blu-ray features faithful video, impressive DTS HD MA 7.1 surround sound, and extensive supplements. Worth a look or a purchase for fans.

One of my favourite Stone films, and a rather nice score for such an old release.

For screen grabs check here:

Will be picking this one up online.

Looking at those screenshots... Wow...

This looks to be a HUGE improvement over the DVD of the movie that I have (non-anamorphic version... D: )

Definitely picking this up

I love this film. This is a must own for me after reading the review. The video I didn't have high expectations for, but I was hoping the audio would be awesome. Sounds like it could be a little better, but is still great. Looks like I'll be ordering off of Amazon.

This flick, IMO started great and then turned into a freegin mess. Instead of concentrating more on the band members and interactions, the film went straight to the "shock" techniques and showed scene after scene of a wasted Morrison getting into various "things". Too much excess and nonsense without any real "story" being told. Like an overproduced MTV/Trent Reznor video or something. Bleh. It became annoying quickly. The music is great, of course.... but I can get the music from CDs or whatever.

I understand that Morrison was the "key" member of the Doors but the rest of band hardly got any screen time except for early on. Then, like I said, it was just a mess. I saw it at the theater way back when and was disappointed at the overall film.

Oh well.

Default People Are Strange

Like 2007's underrated La Vie en Rose (directed by Olivier Dahan), Oliver Stone's 1991 film The Doors is no hagiography (yup, it's the "warts-'n-all" approach), and both films feature breathtaking lead performances. Both Marion Cotillard, in her Oscar-winning portrayal of Edith Piaf, and Val Kilmer, as Jim Morrison, so fully embody the doomed singers of such differing eras that you can't imagine anyone else in their roles. Stone does not attempt to "explain" Morrison except as a modern Dionysus, which may annoy some viewers; everyone else will be blown away by this gorgeous Blu-ray transfer and its sublime audio. Not recommended for Republicans and the closed-minded; highly recommended for the adventurous and those who love music.

Actually noticing quite a bit of EE in many scenes. Not in every shot so if you were just scanning the disc for a review you might not really notice but in many shots it's pretty bad.
