Casablanca isn't a digibook, it's very similar though. It's like Heroes fold out, only with less holders of course. The set includes 2-discs, the film/extras on Blu-ray, and more extras an additional DVD. The site is quite nice, but not amazing.

btw: as usual there are "regular" case copies in other countries for people that "just can't stand" special packaging.
and in this case the "regular" case copy is actually cheaper since it omits all the extra crap.
Of course, since this is in my top 5 favorite movies, I'm fine with the "super" version.

So uh... any idea on how to get one of these "normal" copies?

No need to rob anyone. He's a reviewer and gets discs early all the time. It's one of those perks for reviewing films, ya know? Check out the link in his signature.

OKAY, so I just ordered what I HOPE to be Casablanca on Blu-ray from Amazon France for about 40 USD (that's with S&H).

The thinking goes, if the region is different and it won't play, I'll just get the special edition here, put the disc in the blu-ray case, and still have the box for display.... but the special edition box won't be on my blu-ray shelf, obviously. This way I get the best of both worlds (special edition AND conformity), at the cost of a lot more money, but I don't mind.

Montant total pour cette commande : EUR 31,79

Date d'envoi estimée pour ces articles : 28 novembre 2008
1 "Casablanca [Blu-ray]"
Humphrey Bogart; Blu-ray; EUR 20,89
By the way, does anyone have a review up? Normally I wait for a review before I order a movie, but since the HD DVD got 5 stars, I would assume that the blu-ray would get the same.....

Hey Blu-news.com, I see you have it.... where's your review? Not shirking your job responsibilities, are you?

^ Wow, way too pricey for conformity (not so much conformity but more like to calm down your serious OCD). Especially pricey when you consider they will likely release a standard edition stateside before too long. It's one of one my top 10 favorites of all-time. I've got this edition on pre-order and will proudly display the box on my Blu-ray shelf.

It's like for those people who complain about digibooks -- once you get a lot of digibooks, they start to add up to the point where they all require their own shelf, and suddenly you have a uniform-looking shelf full of digibooks. I wouldn't miss out on such great films as JFK, Shawshank, One Flew Over, Bonnie & Clyde, How the West Was Won, etc. for the sake of not liking a digibook.

PS - Blu-news, thanks for posting all the pics! Now where's your copy of The Day the Earth Stood Still??

No problem. I was anxious to check out the package, so I knew others would like to see it as well. As for The Day The Earth Stood Still, it looks like the earliest it will come is Friday, but I expect it Monday. Fox tends to send out product a bit later to prevent piracy. It's the reason their review DVDs are screeners with water marks, etc.

France is actually region B, but the Warner releases are usually region free so you should be fine.
btw: this release isn't a "digibook" release as others have pointed out.
this is more like a total "collector's ultimate" edition so I can easily see why people might want to just get the single disc here.
It's a shame Warner doesn't offer the "regular" bd version in the US.
not everyone cares about postcards and all that other crap.
and when this makes it to the UK it will be a lot cheaper to get rather than having to go the France route.
but I guess there is no UK date at this time.
I noticed the French one the other day.
