Default "Woodstock" (1970) / July 28th, 2009

Quote:
Warner Home Video has announced that they will bring 'Woodstock: 3 Days of Peace & Music: Ultimate Collector's Edition' to Blu-ray on July 28th, 2009, day-and-date with the DVD. The release will feature the four-hour Director's Cut of the film which has been remastered from the original film elements and scanned at 2K resolution.

A new 5.1 audio mix has been developed under the supervision of film director Michael Wadleigh. Audio mixing of the newly found footage is being overseen by the concert's original chief engineer Eddie Kramer. If none of that makes sense to you, it means that Warner is ensuring that this historic concert Blu-ray have the most accurate soundtrack possible.

Extras announced for this release filmmaker commentary, replicas of handwritten notes from Festival attendees, the 40-minute documentary "The '60s and the Woodstock Generation", studio archive letters, and other souvenir collectible items.

In order to spur interest in this new release, the original release has been on moratorium (out of print) and will remain in that status until this new title is released.

Talk about an early announcement!

Man, this is one that in the DVD days, I had only a passing interest in renting, but reading about this Blu-ray presentation has me salivating. I will definitely buy this on BD. Too bad it's so far away. I hope the Wizard of Oz makes its way to BD earlier in 2009 than this.

Martin Scorsese and long-time editor Thelma Schoonmaker were 2nd unti on this and both were involved in cutting the film (the Best Editing Academy nomination went to Schoonmaker alone though)...as a result I have perpetually been meaning to buy a copy on DVD...looks like I will be waiting until next summer. Great announcement!

its all about the performances man

i'm really interested in seeing what they can do with a new crack at the mix. The dvd and vhs have completely shitty audio, but its primarily because the performances were mixed terribly.

I really, really hope we get some bonus footage of bands that played but declined to have their performances included in the theatrical/dvd/vhs, like the grateful dead, the band, ccr, etc.

I think that art has been there for a while, It is certainly neat looking. It's just going to get chaotic for Blu-ray collectors having to buy all these sets from Warner to see the movies they want on Blu-ray.

Cool

Hope Eddie gets away from his "EH"-style of 'make it sound modern' (LOUD & compressed) mixing.

Warner has just released all the info about this release.
It is coming out early--June 9th is the new date.
for an extensive look and pictures of all sets go under "High-Def" at

www.videobusiness.com

there will be over 2 hours of additional never before seen performances instead of the 1 hour originally planned.

That package looks amazing. I will have to pick it up. I'm diggin' Woodstock lately, having just read the book Taking Woodstock (which will be turned into an Ang Lee film this summer starring Demetri Martin, Emile Hirsch, Paul Dano, Liev Schreiber, Imelda Staunton & Eugene Levy -- quite the quirky cast).
