Default 'Korn: Live at Montreux' - High-Def Digest Review

Peter's review of 'Korn: Live at Montreux' is up. He says this will please fans, but the merely curious should check out their other releases. This Blu-ray has good (but not great) video and audio, and absolutely zero supplements. For Korn fans only.

I'm a huge Korn fan so I'm definitely buying this. I just hope the audio is good enough for my taste and is better than the lack of clear center channel vocals on the Justin Timberlake Blu.

I've always been a fan of Korn, since before their huge breakout success. Not one of my favorite bands, but I've always thought they were typically over-praised during the pinnacle of their popularity in the late 90's, and over-bashed during their decline afterwards. Actually, I've always found their most popular album, Follow the Leader, to be their weakest material IMO.

what decline? untouchables has been one of the best albums that any band has put out this decade. in a decade that has been the worst in the history of the music industry, can i name the wannabe copycat, artificial bands ala nickelcrap, 3 days grace, ect....it's nice to see great 90's bands still producing great albums.

ok so peter didn't read up on korn at all before reviewing their disc and he used the word "nu-metal." i'm officially skipping straight to video ratings from now on.

Used to be my all time favorites with thier first 4 or so albums. I may have to pick this one up.

Sorry, I should rectify. I didn't mean decline as in quality of their music, but in popularity and mainstream success. As I stated I actually felt their album Follow the Leader, which is their most famous record and put them into pretty much the most popular group of '98-99, was their weakest sounding stuff. Issues and beyond was much stronger material.
I also agree that its not fair to compare Korn to all the lame, nu-metal copycats that came out afterwards, because A) They are all bland and generic sounding, which Korn is not and B) bands like Korn and the Deftones were in uncharted territory musically when they first appeared, so they are very original sounding groups.
The fact that Korn is still around putting out quality records show that they are more than the horrible music trend they inadvertently began, and were able to last well past the prime of their popularity unlike other bands of their time <cough> Limp Bizkit <cough>.

Holy shit what a huge disappointment this is. The DTS-HD MA soundtrack on here is horrible. Absolutely no LFE that I can hear. It sounds like all the sound is coming from my fronts and surrounds with virtually no low bass at all coming from my sub. I'm glad I only paid $16 for this with my Best Buy employee discount. Ugh...
