I got this the other day and I thought the PQ and AQ was very good. The movie is very entertaining. Not a great movie at all but entertaining. It is like 28 days later meets mad max. Lot bloodier than I expected too

awesome violence, nice AQ, decent PQ, horrible movie. the beginning had such promise til it went to:

*********SPOLIERS**********

I have a feeling I'll be blind buying this one...I'm a HUGE sucker for post-apocalyptic frag fests, even if they are horrible.

With that PQ rating this should be a best seller among many people here, no matter how terrible the actual film is.

I agree with this review 100%. The setup had such promise, but the payoff was cliche and, as much as I think Rhona Mitra is hot, I don't think she can carry the lead role -- at least not with material like this.

The movie failed on so many levels. Was it trying to be serious? Camp?

Spoiler:
I just shook my head in disbelief when the music video and stripper dance sequence broke out.

I'm not a "you have to be serious 100% of the time" kind of guy, but this film's tone was all over the place.

Finally, I have to ask this: why is it that in a post-apocalyptic world does the lead bad guy and his followers insist on growing, coloring, and displaying mohawks? Do they have the time and resources necessary to fashion such elaborate hairstyles when a virus is killing the rest of mankind? If I was trying to survive and I needed to break into an abandoned drug store, you can be damn sure I wouldn't head straight for the hair care isle. But, I digress...

Stick to Marshall's other movies mentioned in the review.

i'm in the same boat...ugh...do I rent or buy? Lot of people have been saying it's a decent flick.

As long as it's really entertaining and has replay value, that's probably all I need.

5 star PQ, blood, and Malcolm McDowell....it's now official: ME WANT

Spoiler:
irony, though, in the first 2 paragraphs in the review, stating the team will go look for so and so doctor...by it being said character, UNLESS he's only in flashbacks, it reveals he is found lol

See, I've learned long ago to NEVER listen to other people's opinions on this forum. Everyone has different tastes, and mine happen to be all over the place. I CAN enjoy a good mindless post-apocalyptic music video-esqe film along side the likes of Lawrence of Arabia, Pi and Apocalypto.

Most times those that trash films like this have their guilty pleasures too.

This movie is not meant to serious.....

This movie is (admittedly by Marshall) an 'homage' to all of the bad post-apocalyptic films of the 80s. People need to understand this movie is shit intentionally.... things don't make sense in Doomsday because, well, a lot of those 80s films don't make sense either.

This movie is 'all over the place' because it's supposed to be ridiculous..... the movie goes all 'medieval' in the middle because it's supposed to be ludicrous - what else would the Scottish do but revert back to those times after just 20 years of being cut off from society? I mean they have all of those castles everywhere so why not go back to the 13th century from which they were built???

It ridiculous because it's supposed to be.

Sure, this movie could have been better. Sure, it could been made so that it didn't seem like it was 7 different movies in one.... but then it wouldn't be what it is. People need to understand what this film is before they watch it.

Am I saying it's a good film? No, not at all - but then again neither is Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior. And that is exactly the kind of movie that Doomsday is - if you have any like/love for the Mad Maxes you'll probably like this movie. If you like any of he shit films from the 80s - Escape From New York for instance - you'll probably find this movie enjoyable.

Two words: 'Road' and 'Warrior'

Why does Wez have a red mohawk? Or wear ass-less chaps?

Why does the 'Warrior Woman' wear that very 80s white outfit?

Why does the Gyro Captain exist at all? Or the 'Feral Child'? Why is there that old man in the compound dressed in his WWII (WWI?) uniform?

Why does the Lord Humungus feel the need to dress like this:

The answer to all of those questions? Who cares. The Road Warrior only exists so that they could have the largest explosion in any Australian film ever (even to this date) and one of the longest chases sequences on film.... it's nothing more than that. George Miller made a movie that allowed him to do what he wanted - blow shit up and have a great car chase.

Similarly, Doomsday only exists so that the director could 'geek-out' and homage his favorite films. Marshall made a movie that allowed himself to do what he wanted - blow shit up and have car chases that were in a similar fashion to his favorites.

It's nothing more than what it is... don't go looking for a deeply developed story or characters. Don't go in waiting to hear great dialog. Don't expect a main character that is actually worth a damn (just like Gibson in Road Warrior.)

If you turn your brain off it's a very fun movie. Now, if you turn your brain on and happen to like things made by John Carpenter, Dr. George Miller and others you'll find this to be a great film.

And what this all boils down to (like always) is opinion. Some people will like this, others won't - that's okay. Because, really, people have different tastes. Just because you happen to like a film doesn't mean it is the 'one of the all time greats' and just because you don't like a film doesn't mean it 'isn't'.

Even if a movie isn't 'one of the greats' (far from it) as long as it's still enjoyable to those who like it, it's worth something.... as long as that movie isn't one of those unimaginative Meet the Spartans type things.

Look at me - two of my favorites are Road Warrior and RoboCop. Both of them are 80s trash really..... (anyone who thinks either film is actually 'one of the greats' please stop - RoboCop being a christ allegory doesn't make it so. Neither do it's attacks on consumerism. Road Warrior being one of the first 'action films' doesn't make it a 'great one' either.) But just because they are 'trash' doesn't mean that they aren't enjoyable to me. And because they are enjoyable makes them worth something... maybe not a 'great film of all time' "something" but, something more than nothing.

Also, I am eagerly awaiting delivery of this film.... it's not here yet, but it should be soon.
