Default 'The Perfect Storm' - High-Def Digest Review

Peter's review of 'The Perfect Storm' is up. He liked the movie, but wasn't blown away by it. He wishes this Blu-ray had a sharper video track, but the audio is still excellent. Extras are looking a bit dated. Worth a look.

Glad to hear I was wrong about Warner and they did correct the HD DVD.

as long as the jaggies are gone...

VERY noticeable jaggies on the previous HDdvd. On a large screen, distracting as hell IMHO.

I'm still in.

I saw this movie in the theatres, I thought it was hokey, and bad. Not even worth a rent, due to the movie itself, imo.

I like this movie, and for those with smaller screens... this one looks and sounds great on 50" screens and smaller (at least the HD DVD does). On my 42" screen, I can't tell there's anything wrong with this one.

There's great documentary on the events of the "perfect storm" that showed on PBS that includes interviews with the chopper crew, the sailing boat, other line fishermen out there during that period -- that would be an awesome extra here. In truth, seeing that documentary really added to my enjoyment of this movie. Sorta like seeing Z-Boys then going to see Lords of Dogtown.

Pix are up at DVD Beaver:

No visible jaggies to me. Although, oddly enough, they didn't use the TrueHD soundtrack.

so is there a TrueHD soundtrack on this or not?
the specs on the side don't seem to indicate one, but the reviewer discusses one.
count me confused.
the dvdbeaver review doesn't indicate one either.

blu-ray.com review also lists lossy specs:
http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/movies.php?id=191
Quote:
Audio

English: Dolby Digital 5.1 EX
French: Dolby Digital 5.1
Spanish: Dolby Digital 2.0
From Peter's review:

Quote:
Though it was not announced with such, Warner has ported over to Blu-ray the same audio options from the HD DVD. We get a Dolby TrueHD 5.1 Surround track (48kHz/16-bit), plus a host of Dolby Digital EX 5.1 Surround dubs in various languages. The TrueHD is the highlight of the disc, thanks to the film's excellent sound design.
