Dude any horror movie where Paris Hilton dies is a must buy for me. I mean I can't think of anything more satisfying to watch! Waxworks was pretty bad, but also didn't try to make itself out to be serious.

Didn't get to this one in the theater, but will most likely be picking it up, looks pretty good.

A purchase without seeing it first? That's a very risky thing to do. What if you dont like it?

I've made that mistake in the past back in the DVD days. I bought CHARLIE'S ANGELS without seeing it.. Then I shrink-wrapped it and returned it.

But at least I had an excuse for buying two DVD's without seeing them (BATTLE ROYALE and ICHI THE KILLER). Thats because they were banned in the States from the BIG SCREEN and not even on REGION 1 DVD at the time.. Soooo I had to buy the Region 0 import if I wanted to watch them (and I wanted to watch them). Thats the only way I could see them. I could rent them. And they were good. I got lucky.

You have a choice. You can rent them.. and you can rent them on Blu (I only rent Blu)

The third and only other DVD I bought without watching it first was REQUIEM FOR A DREAM, and thats because there was not one bad review about it. So I took a chance and bought it when I could have rented it.

You, on the otherhad, are reading NEGATIVE REVIEWS about THE STRANGERS. Why would you buy it and risk throwing away money if you dont like it? Do you have a shrink-wrap machine and a top-spine generator to re-wrap and return it for a full refund if you dont like it?

Confused
Are you able to rent it first?

Sell it? At a loss? But Psickmusic has access to a shrinkwrap and topspine machine. Making it FACTORY SEALED again. He can take it back to the store with the receipt and get a full refund.

Could it be that some people actually "run out and buy it on Blu even though they never saw it", because they're a Blu Fan Boy?

Or maybe just not that petty, but who knows

If only you could slap someone over the internet.

Yes the movie did have a few pretty decent scares and did a good job building up a scary creepy atmosphere. But it's nowhere near a classic. Most movies today know nothing of building up a scary atmosphere and rely on gore and shocking fast movement. So I was happy to see this movie did a pretty good job.

The movie lost me halfway in. When it went from plausible, relatable, and scary to just stupid.

Now i think partly the fact that the movie takes place in current times with cell phones was partly a problem for the movie makers.. They did their best but...

The part that really took the cake for me was:

Spoiler:

The part where his brother shows up at the house only to have his window mysteriously smashed in... then as he walks up to the house discovers his brothers car on fire? And all smashed in... then he finds the front door open.... At any one of these discoveries I"D CALL THE COPS or try to get help from a neighbor. When you have three cell phones and a shotgun and you can't take on 3 intruders you know the movie is going to have some annoying twists.

Great movie but I'm worried it won't be as entertaining the second time through because I know where all the scares are. Still might end up picking this one up, dunno. We'll see.

Yep,'Them' was based on a true story as noted in the opening and closing credits and is a fantastic example of a minimilist horror/thriller.

How exactly Universal have gotten away with re-making Them and not crediting it is beyond me but Im sure the excuse would be that as it was based on a true story that was the inspiration not the original french film.

Although this is a decent enough film in its own right Them is a far superior version of the story and when it is revealed who was actually terrorising the couple makes it all the more horrifying.

Old Specs, seem to have changed slightly:
TECHNICAL INFORMATION BLU-RAY™ HI-DEF:
Street Date: October 21, 2008
Price: $39.98
Rating: R for violence/terror and language
Selection Number: 62106176
Running Time: 1 Hour 26 Minutes (Theatrical) / 1 Hour 28 Minutes (Unrated)
Layers: BD 25
Aspect Ratio: Widescreen 2.35:1
Languages: English
Subtitles: English, Spanish, French
Sound: Dolby Digital 5.1

Dolby Digital 5.1 is a mistake though.

Looks like we aren't getting both cuts either, only unrated based on the new cover art:

The art above is the final packaging art, the one you posted Blu is the retail art intended to be displayed at under 2". The tagline panel hasn't changed, it's just they made it all blue for the smaller image.
