Default Quo Vadis coming to Blu-ray / Spring 2009

Quote:
Warner Home Video has revealed that they will bring the 1951 Mervyn LeRoy religious epic film 'Quo Vadis' to Blu-ray during Spring 2009. The film, which featured a cast list that numbers in the tens of thousands and was filmed on location in Rome, has gone through a special photochemical restoration in order to present the film in a way not seen since its original release over fifty years ago.

No technical specs or special features have been announced at this time, but you can expect that this Blu-ray will at least receive all the extras from the two-disc DVD release (November 11th, 2008). These extras include a documentary tracing the roots of the film from its start as a bestseller, and a commentary by filmmaker/writer F.X. Feeney on the details of the lavish and complicated production.

Really looking forward to this. Saw Quo Vadis? many years ago as a child and it gave me an interest in seeing Roman Epics which led to me discovering the work of Stanley Kubrick.

Haven't seen Quo Vadis in years and don't think it ever made DVD, so the blu of this will be a no-brainer.

Definitely something I will get. I thought Leo Genn was terrific in it. Peter Ustinov was so funny and over the top as Nero. And a great score by Miklos Rozsa.

Hoping to see other epics soon: Ben-Hur (announced but no date yet), Ten Commandments, and King of Kings. Would be nice if Universal would do right by Spartacus on blu-ray considering that the HD DVD was such a mess.

Warner Home Video has announced that they will bring the epic film 'Quo Vadis' to Blu-ray on March 17th. This title has already been released on Blu-ray by Warner in both Japan and Korea, and it is widely assumed that the US release will share their technical specs of coming on a BD-50 and utilizing 1080p VC-1 video accompanied by a Dolby Digital mono soundtrack.

Confirmed extras for this release include:

* Commentary by F. X. Feeney -Filmmaker/Writer Feeney explores the genesis of one of MGM's most glorious, grand-scale productions, a movie that took nearly twenty years to make and the one that helped launch the age of the 50's Hollywood epic blockbusters.
* In the Beginning: Quo Vadis and the Genesis of the Biblical Epic - Although filmmakers have always found inspiration in the Bible, no one ever quite made a movie like Quo Vadis, the definitive Roman spectacle and the production that launched the 50's into an arena of mega-blockbuster epics. This documentary walks the road as long and complex as the film itself, from its roots as a Nobel Peace Prize-winning bestseller to its various ground-breaking adaptations to its place as the most daring and lavish film that MGM, and Louis B. Mayer, dared to undertake.
* Theatrical Trailer
* Teaser Trailer
