Default An Update on Warner's 9/2 Catalogues......

The 'consistently inconsistent' studio strikes again.

DVDtimes(UK) has specs for the upcoming wave of September releases.
  • Eraser, Outbreak, and Gauntlet are all getting lossless Dolby TrueHD.
  • All 5 releases will have an SRP of $28.99
  • All on BD-25s
Under Siege 2 is getting a standard 5.1 Dolby Digital and Every Which Way But Loose has no specs listed (wonder if it's getting the original Mono).

There are no extras. I don't think the DVDs of all of these had any (or many) either so......

Quote:
Eraser (1996)

[Every Which Way But Loose (1978) had no specs listed....]
The link also has artwork for the curious.

Well, that's a good thing, right?

Also, since Nightmare On Elm Street is apparently now coming out that day, one would hope for similar specs... but with all the special features that the last New Line Platinum Series 2-disc set contained.

Yes, it is. Although, you have to wonder, had these discs had any special features, would they had included lossless? I tend to think not....

And, while it's nice that these catalogues are getting the TrueHD upgrade, I have to wonder (if Bill Hunt is correct) why these got the lossless treatment and a new Day and Date like Speed Racer doesn't....

I'm hoping Speed Racer ends up getting TrueHD in the end, the current plan of DD 5.1 is a joke.

Glad to hear about ERASER having a lossless soundtrack. Was always a favorite!! Pissed about UNDER SIEGE 2. You can't tell me they couldn't fit a TRUEHD track on the BD 25.

They really have poor planning over there!

Could we not take it to mean that extras have not yet been announced? I would think it would have been better to wait for an official U.S. news release, instead of going to a UK site, before starting this thread.

Well, for what it's worth dvdtimes.uk is a fairly reputable site.... they also have stated that this is all info for the US release.

My basic point of the tread was to tell people that TrueHD was coming from Warner on these catalogues.... the info is pretty good, I think. Definitely something that was not known before I started this thread.

For what it is also worth, all of these films DVDs didn't have any extras other than trailers and text based bios. I wouldn't think that any new extras will magically show up without a DVD reissue - blu-ray isn't that far along yet for titles like this.

Thanks for posting.....

I think we will start to see more and more lossless fro Warner, it may not be "soon", but maybe next year....An insider said that Warner has heard the "outcry" for lossless and is beginning to make changes, but as usual these changes are going to happen slowly.

We also have to remember that there is still time for specs to change. These may be preliminary specs, and when the final specs get released we will see more "detailed" releases.

Just a case in point, look at The Christmas Story, it was originally reported as BD-25, but is getting a BD-50 release (if HDD got it right ). I still havent seen anywhere else post the final specs besides this site....Mind you this info changed within a about a weeks time.

Give it time folks, I am guessing sometime next year Warner will "fall in line" with the other studios. If they dont they will be "odd man out" as far as the specs go.

I checked from dvdcompare.net for these movies and none of them ever had extras on any dvd released so far (in any region) so I guess chances are pretty slim to get new extras. Moreover if warner is planning to go ahead with cheap blu-rays then I think they will not spend any more money to create new extras.

DVD Times, though based in the UK, has been known for several years to be the first to leak US street dates and specs for a number of DVDs. They are a considered quite a reputable source for info on US releases. I would trust their BD info comes from the same sources and would be trustworthy as well.
