Default 'The Bank Job' - High-Def Digest Review

Kenneth's review of 'The Bank Job' is up. He was pleasantly surprised by this intriguing and well made flick. This Blu-ray has a problematic but above average video transfer, great audio, and revealing supplements. Recommended.

I remember really digging this film in the theaters. Sucks the video quality isn't up to snuff, but I'm sure it's still worthy of owning. Sounds like the audio is fantastic.

Its great to see this movie get a 4 star review. I blind bought this from amazon, and I started to get a little worried when I saw ign.com gave the movie a 4 out of 10.

I trust Kenneth's reviews much more than anybody from IGN though, so now I can't wait to watch this tomorrow

i'm really sad i didn't see it in the theaters, cuz then I woulda known to just buy it!!!

This flick snuck up on me wasn't expecting much, but it's a great flick. I am way glad to see Jason Statham back in form. Don't listen to IGN they have tthe worst reviews ever.

Deffinetly check out the special feature on the actual robbery, made it all that much better.

As for the VQ, I don't know but this looked pretty damn good on my set, detail is the biggest thing, you can make out almost everything in every frame, I honestly thought it would be getting a 4.5 rating, but I guess I'm no expert so what do i know...

AQ was excellent as well, really wish I just Blind bought this one.....

Think I am going to blind buy this one. Those positive ratings sold me.

This movie should remind people of a lot of various heist films, since it is pretty much more of the same as far as the heist genre is concerned. This is actually the worst film I saw in theaters in 2008. I'm fairly selective about what I go to see in theaters and this was one of those "I want to see a movie come hell or high water films that just happened to be playing at the right time. Although, I gave this move a 4 as well, albeit it was a 4 out of 10(IMDb) after seeing it. As a genre piece it is pretty fun, but contrary to what the reviewer here wrote, it does not add anything to said genre. Watch any heist film from Un Flic and Big Deal on Madonna Street to Small Time Crooks and Locked, Stocked, and Two Smoking Barrells and you will notice things that appear in Bank Job.

Not sure he watched the same film as I. "Merely a heist flick" is exactly what The Bank Job is and if "near-epic" means throwing a bunch of undeveloped characters (read: simple archetypes) in an underdeveloped, rushed story is what a "near-epic" is, then well, I guess so. But, I would say the film is better described as "near-mediocore."

That being said, if I come across a copy for free or a friend brings the blu-ray over I'll watch it once more (it is a nice entertainment, just not original or worth a purchase), but the more "snobish" film fans among you may want to rent before blind buying.

BambooLounge:

Your review reminds me of what I thought of 16 Blocks. A movie that has a good cast, good script, is directed well enough, but does absolutely nothing new, and is as predictable as they come. But even though 16 Blocks was derivative, there was really nothing wrong with it, and so I enjoyed it for what it was worth.

I have The Bank Job sitting at home from Netflix, and I have a feeling I'll have a similar reaction to it. Entertaining, well made, well acted, but ultimately forgettable. But I hope I'm wrong.

Difference of opinions on PQ scoring:

'Bank Job (2008)' -- pre-release buzz

I would not let the PQ score stop you from considering getting this! Many see it better than that!
