Default 'Gangs of New York (French Import)' - High-Def Digest Review

Josh's review of the 'Gangs of New York' French Import is up. The film remains a notable, but flawed footnote in Martin Scorsese's career. This French Blu-ray is only marginally better than its American counterpart -- it still doesn't look very good. For die-hard fans only.

hmmmmmmmm.................
well it seems that only a full restoration/remaster will help this particular title. Still, looks like it's the French version for me because even with the small improvement, I'll take it.

screw it...... I guess I'll just keep my crappy US version with hopes of a re-release. This is most dissapointing. Thanks Josh for the review, you just saved me some coin.

Blu-ray UK Import

Hi,

Just registered, first time posting..very nervous....

The UK version was released in 2007 by a company called 'Entertainment in Video'. Maybe it's worth importing that and doing a comparative review.

Unfortunately, EiV merely licensed the master from Disney. From all reports, there is little to no discernable difference between their disc and the American Blu-ray.

A comparison between the French and US edition BDs by Ecran Large (in French).

It's a shame the video on all the BD's is so poor. I was hoping to replace my UK copy, because it really is awful. Hopefully something will be done about it in the future.

Lots of hype on the French version then from what I remember reading on other forums.

Hmm, those screen shots dont look too bad to me, I guess the faults are more evident while the film is in motion.

For 30 bucks, I expect great things, especially for a film released as recently as GONY. Any petition floating around to get disney to fix this release?

The halos are still pretty bad. Look around the hats.
