The trailers for this...first time I saw it, I thought it looked awful. But...they kinda grew on me. Still skipped it in theaters...but, man are the trailers pretty in 1080p. I'll definitely at least give this a test drive and go from there. At the very worst, it's going to be a nice bit of eye candy.

I'll probably blind buy for the special effects shots. It can't be a worse purchase than the Matrix sequels, at least.

This is one of the worst movies ever made. Seriously.
It has no redeeming qualities whatsoever. Not even visually. The effects look like crap. Even for the cartoonish quality they were going for, they look like crap.
Avoid it at all costs. If you've seen it, you should agree with me. If you haven't... be glad you did not waste your time, and don't do it in the future.
Stay away. Avoid it like the plague.
There is no room for opinion here. The movie is depressingly bad. If you liked it, I have no respect for you. At all.
It's on the same level as Kangaroo Jack and Meet the Spartans. Except that it seemed to have some aspirations for intentional hokey greatness... which makes it even more of an embarrassment.
Do not waste the time or money. Send this movie to the hall of shame. It doesn't deserve the honor of having any more viewers than it has already had.
Do not watch it. -

I cant believe people are saying the movie was rubbish but if its reference material they'll pick it up.
So you will sit through a completely shit movies just cause it looks good?
Thats no different than saying you'd buy One Missed Call or Meet the Spartans had either of them been reference titles.
The logic baffles me? -

This may have been my favorite movie of the year so far. For me, it hit the nail on the head as far as turning the cartoon into a live action piece. Underdog, Alvin and the Chipmunks, and Garfield could take a cue from staying true to the source like this (but apparently not make money). Unless they screw up the encoding (digital-to-digital is hard to screw up that bad), this should be reference material. I work at a 2nd run theater, where we get movies once the big theaters quit making money on them. We have Speed Racer now and nearly everyone leaving the theater, especially kids (but adults too) are raving about it. I was at a midnite show at another theater for the very first show and it received an applause from the crowd. I paid to see it a 2nd time before we got it as well. Lots of awesome fan service and not screwing up things about the original. I was actually worried that they may skip Blu-Ray on this one because of the disappointingly low box office. Glad to hear its coming to Blu-Ray, even my friends that don't care about high def are saying "I bet that's gonna look awesome on Blu-Ray!". It didn't have the deepest plot or characters, but it was what Speed Racer would look like if it wasn't a cartoon, and that's what I like in my cartoon movies. I can't think of one that has come closer. A (very) distant second would be Scooby Doo, but they screwed it up by using Freddie Prinze Jr. and Sarah Machelle Gellar for box office draw, which flawed an otherwise great cast. Just compare to the much higher earning Underdog - in the cartoon he was a shoeshine boy, in a world where almost everyone is a dog or animal, and had his own freakin apartment. Now in the movie he's some kid's pet. NO! At least this was made with love, not another Michael Bay movie where he shoots 3 hours of extra footage and whittles it down with test audiences because he doesn't know what to do himself other than make things blow up. Oh and just as far as TV adaptations throw Get Smart on the crap pile, I have the 138 episode box set of episodes and know them well, they just stole some lines from the show and stuck them into some generic spy-comedy script that doesn't resemble the show in the least. The Wachowski's had some serious love for Speed Racer, and for the right people (like me), it couldn't have been better.

That was/is the stereotype of a Blu-ray fanboy...format over film. "Oooo, pretty colors." Not saying the "reference quality" people are/were fanboys back during the Great War, but it is easy to see where the stereotype came from.
As for the movie itself, I may give it a rent since everything I have read about the film either praises it as a great work of pop art or one of the most brainless pieces of garbage to ever (dis)grace a movie screen. Needless to say, such division has piqued my interest. (just not enough to pay $12 to see it in theaters) -
