Default 'Batman: Gotham Knight' - High-Def Digest Review

Kenneth has reviewed 'Batman: Gotham Knight.' He says it's a project similar in spirit to 'The Animatrix,' but says this Blu-ray suffers from a problematic video transfer and so-so audio. Worth a look, but probably as a rental.

I saw it last night on ATV and have to say the visuals were not at all stunning. the colors werent vibrant, even the blacks were not par...which is the whole film basically.

Id tell you what I thought of the film but apparently not saying anything ive already posted is better than leaving it out all together.

Wow...4 stars for the movie....I actually though it was crap. Crossfire was my 2nd least favorit. Number one goes to Fieldtest, really bad. To each is own I guess

I bought this with low expectations but Batman is one of my favorite superheroes and as Ken pointed it, the style is similar to the Animatrix. Definitely worth a rental for fun and a buy for fans if it were $15 or less.

I would agree with the video rating, but for the movie itself? No way. I'd give it 2, maybe 2.5 stars. There was nothing to it. I finished it feeling nothing. Batman fights a bad guy in each one and wins. Done. Anyone who says it's a character study obviously doesn't know what that means.

It's pointless. The appeal of the film is seeing six different artists' take on Batman. And with average to poor video quality, it hardly accomplishes that. Disappointing.

I may pick this one up...if I can get it cheap. Little surprised that the pq is not that great for a hi def title.

Quality aside, I would argue that "Fieldtest" and "Working Through Pain" are indeed character studies. The first examines Wayne's adherence to principals (and the risks he'll take to ensure he upholds them) and the second explores the character's obsessive desire to become something more than himself. These entries don't center on Batman fighting a baddie, but rather Batman encountering an inner conflict and working to overcome his own mistakes and weaknesses.

Even so, I probably wouldn't label the entirety of 'Gotham Knight' a character study either. As for my generous score, keep in mind that I evaluated this as a companion piece to 'Batman Begins' and the upcoming 'Dark Knight' -- I never expected it to be anything more. Anyone expecting the next great animated comicbook flick should anticipate disappointment.

Thanks as always for posting!

The Blu-ray has a very long wait on Netflix so I think I will just pick up the SD DVD for $13-$15 at best buy or Target. It seems that the the PQ score is not worth the extra money it costs for the blu-ray and with this movie and for my purposes it does not need a high def release. thats just my opinion though anyone else who has the blu-ray enjoy.

I really enjoyed this Bluray. If you are a fan of Batman or Anime I would say this is a must have, especially with the low availablility of Anime on Bluray at the moment. The only thing that dissapointed me was the low amount of content compared to that of the Animatrix.
