Default 'The Ruins' - High-Def Digest Review

Peter has reviewed 'The Ruins.' He says it a well-made, disturbing, but somewhat hollow scarefest that's NOT for the squeamish. This is a solid Blu-ray, with strong video and audio, and a nice package of extras. Unless you're already a fan, give it a rent before your purchase.

Yeah, definitely not for the squeamish, too bad it wasn't scary. Decent flick though. One mistake though, the theatrical trailer isn't 18 minutes long.. lol.

EDIT: Oh and the picture part of the review starts as 'p>Paramount'

Blind bought it from Amazon. Heard great and creepy things from other reviewers. like 3 different people reviewed the movie on DVDTalk and all said it was Highly Reccommended. lame though, but I have a delay of shipment and it wont arrive until the 12th?

I think this movie deserved at least a 4 on PQ. It has great daytime shots throughout the movie while the only problems lie in the dark scenes. Sometimes they are just a little hard to tell what is going on. Other than that it was a great movie and I'm glad I blind bought it.

Def. glad that this movie was my blu-ray purchase choice (the first one of any new releases in several weeks, been renting the others). I love horror and this movie was a horror film through and through. Sometimes horror isn't necessarily suspenseful or "scary" it's gore or wince-inducing scenes and this one def. takes the cake for that.

blind buy and watched it last night, loved the sound, the PQ was amazing in the light and decent in the dark parts. overall i thought it was a pretty legit little horror movie.

I picked this up as a blind buy yesterday, and the review for this movie is spot on. I did enjoy the movie, but felt that it was ultimately pretty hollow. It seemed like this movie ended way too soon too; so it felt like they didn't really develop the characters enough. It just seemed like there were large chuncks of this movie left on the editing room floor or something.

Therefore, by the mid way point of the movie I didn't care about any of the characters and I was just interested in seeing what gory ways they could die. Even on the level of being a gore fest, this movie only semi-achieved that goal. There were only two scenes that really made me squirm, and besides that too many of the death scenes were very pedestrian and boring. By pedistrian death scenes, I basically mean that some of the deaths really didn't follow through with the premise set up by the movie...its like having a Nightmare on Elm Street movie where only two people out of ten are actually killed by Freddy Kreuger.

In the end, I enjoyed this movie and I think its solid. Its not great, but its not bad...definitely worth a watch. I just wish there was more to it.

Rented the BD from Netflix and thought it was entertaining enough, but definitely not great. I did watch the alternate endings, however, and can assure you that the theatrical ending would have left me PO'd if I had paid to see this in the cinema.
