Thumbs up The X-Files movies coming to Blu-ray

Hi everyone,

Some news for all you X-Files fans out there. Today I saw two trailers for the theatrical film "The X-Files: I Want to Believe" hitting theaters July 25. I've been a fan of the show and the 1 feature film since the very beginning.

So news of the new movie coming out blew me away. Going to the web site I was able to find out that the first film "Fight the Future" is being prepared for Blu-ray and Standard Def DVD release but no date is set. Here is the link where the producer (Frank Spotnitz) talks about the Blu-ray plans: http://origin.xfiles.com/franks_blog.php?id=17. You can also enter the site using this link >> http://www.xfiles.com/

I have a strange soft spot for this film. I just really enjoy it...and I was never a X-Files TV show fan either.

So...looking forward to this. It's solid late night entertainment.

I don't know if I will double dip on this. I know I won't the series, cause that will cost wayyyyyyyyyyy to much with it being Fox.

I'll wait and see. I'm gonna go see the new movie when it comes out

I will double dip on the first movie for sure. The 9 Seasons of the show I would like even though only Seasons 5 through 9 were filmed in 16:9 (the first four seasons were shot 1.33:1) and I'm afraid wouldn't look all that great in HD. Also like you said being Fox they would be expensive. I have looked at some of my SD DVDs up-converted and they look fairly good with the transfers being done 4+ years ago so I can only guess how good they CAN look in HD. Although nothing was mentioned about the series being planned for HD...just the first movie (and I assume the new one will be too after it's played it's theatrical run).

I am going to see the movie this month too ... no doubt about it. I'm so excited I doubt I will sleep tonight.

You know it. I bought each season as it became available and I have never forgotten the cost ... $150.00 per season x 9 seasons...ugh, yes I am an X-Philes fan.

$150 a season? I paid $150 for the entire series. Paid $32 for the entire 'Stargate' series . Got season 1-4 of 'Stargate: Atlantis' ordered for $104

The series would need a massive remastering for HD as the show was master/edited on SD tape... at least seasons 1-4 were. I'm not sure about after they went widescreen - I'd assume it was still SD although they might have been higher quality. Unless they go back to the original film elements the series will exist only in SD quality forever.

As for the movie - I'd love to see it on Blu-ray. The DVD is kind of meh PQ-wise, so a high quality BD would be greatly appreciated.

Honestly yes $150.00 a season ... but that was when the series was still in production. It was only after the series ended that Fox sold the the package of all 9 seasons for $XXX.XX.

I even have almost all of the Collectible statuary of the main characters, aliens, etc., along with original scripts of some of the episodes I like most. I spent alot of money but (for me) it was worth every dollar back then. Now I think about what I paid compared to what disc sets go for now and think I musta been nuts to pay so much but back then that was the cost if you wanted them. Today I could fill up my car with gas almost twice for what I paid for one season. S-c-a-r-y !!!

What are the chances that the Blu-ray movie will be released with an Alexander Krycek Sideshow Exclusive Edition 12 inch Figure-Black Oil Edition? LOL

I think you're right Super-VHS about the show being mastered on tape in SD (at least the first four seasons). I'm thinking that possibly the last season might have been mastered in HD but it's only a guess on my part and knowing the year that season was originally on TV makes it a possibility. At least I hope so.

If the original film elements exist I am hoping that some time in the future Fox will do a complete HD master. It's probably only a pipe dream but, hey, it's something to hope for.
