Default 'Batman: The Movie' - High-Def Digest Review

Peter's review of 'Batman: The Movie' has been posted. He enjoyed the film, but says he likes the shorter TV episodes better. This Blu-ray, however, looks terrific (4.5 stars) and sounds good, too. Also, TONS of extras. For fans of 'Batman: The Movie,' this is a no-brainer.

I loved the old original Batman series (used to watch it on, I believe it was FX during the early/mid 90s) and will probably pick this up.

As a side note, am I the only one who thinks that it is preposterous that a movie from 2002 (Gangs of New York) can't get a decent master/remaster, yet one from 1966 can? What's going on with the studios?

Started watching this on NETFLIX Instant View a few weeks ago. I'm sorry, but I couldn't get past a few minutes. It was fun as a kid, but I very much prefer the animated Timm-verse, the Burton films, and the current franchise with Bale.

However, it's nice to see the fans get at least something from this franchise given the legal issues revolving around the tv series at least.

If you have a NETFLIX account, I recommend you check this out using their Instant Viewing option before taking the time to get a hold of the disc. That is if you are not already a diehard fan of this particular version of Batman.

Ughhh? I haven't seen the actual show in quite some time, and I don't particularly remember ever seeing this individual film... Therefore, I decided to check out at least a little bit of it through a legitimate source such as NETFLIX Instant Viewing, since it was NOT available yet on Blu Ray when I saw it available through this method. It doesn't maintain the same watchability for me as the franchise did back in the day.

In regards to my watching something through NETFLIX's Instant Viewing option... I've watched several instances of upcoming/current Blu Ray releases of various tv series/films that I had yet to see. Some I've enjoyed and ended up purchasing on Blu Ray. Batman: The Movie is not one of them... Netflix Instant Viewing certainly beats a blindbuy of a $30 Blu Ray release when you might end up with something you may not enjoy. I also might add that I have the ROKU box, which beats sitting in front of a computer.

Far be it for me to influence anyone else's decision. Then again, I still recommend at least checking it out online through NETFLIX if it's otherwise a blindbuy. If you like it, I'm sure the upgraded PQ/AQ and supplements will make you appreciate the Blu Ray release even more when compared to a recent viewing in what amounts to something that is less than DVD quality streamed over the internet from NETFLIX.

Back on topic...

Ah, Fox trying to cash in on the hype around Batman right now. LOL, nice try turds. Huge difference between BB/TDK and B66. Hopefully people can tell the difference.

I actually saw this in high definition (1080i broadcast) last year, and was just as shocked as Peter at the video quality. 40 years old, and this film absolutely shines. The story's crap, the acting's crap, the whole thing is one giant joke (funny in a completely ludicrous kind of way), but the picture is incredible.

That said, I don't think this one belongs in my collection. Especially not at $35.

$35 isn't that much. In facts it's cheaper than most Blu Rays.

Anyway I might pick this up just for the camp value. Thats if it's getting a release here in the UK.

I find it hilarious that a movie from 1966 gets a MUCH better video transfer than Gangs of New York...

and by hilarious I mean ridiculous

Sweet, a good review. Got this on pre-order and should arrive soon. Can't wait to see how great the video looks! And I guess some people are trying to watch it as a serious film -- just sit back and laugh at how cheesy it all is. Bat Shark Repellent? FWA HAHAHA!!!

It is much when the SD DVD format is only $6.99.

I'd get this old school take on Batman if wasn't rediculously priced (what is up with the $40 price tag on catalogs Fox?).

I'll wait for this to go down to $20 or less.
