Default 'Gigi' and "An American In Paris' headin' to Blu!

Great news high-def fans! Warner has confirmed plans to bring the classics 'Gigi' and 'An American in Paris' to Blu-ray in 2009. Can you contain your glee?

Now how is this great news? Those two titles were promised for Q3 2008 by Warner earlier this year but now got delayed. Delaying is good?

Yeah-- This really sucks. Who wants to wait another year. The only other title close to this league is HTWWW and I heard that was delayed.

What a shame, finally the first 2 classic musicals on blu-ray and they don't come out day and date with the special edition dvd's. It will be a long wait!

You should probably keep your nose out of threads about the classic films. All you do is keep making yourself look like an idiot (another prime example from today was something to the effect of 'I have never seen these but they have no replay value' in the Godfather trilogy thread).

Cloverfield for Blu-ray of the Year? That's rich...

On topic, "An American in Paris" is a lock for a blind buy for me. AFI Top 100 + Best Picture + Gene Kelly + Deluxe Warner treatment = Can't Miss.

+1

If you don't have anything to say, and you're not planning on buying a title, please refrain from threadcrapping. It makes it more cluttered for the rest of us who are interested and are planning to buy a title.

I agree!!!!!! I can't say I've ever gone into a thread of a title I don't want and just say that I'll pass on it. It would suffice to say that most classic fans find plenty of value in these titles and plenty of replay value in The Godfather trilogy (as well as the 2 musicals). It's easy to skip over a post like that but it's just annoying to hear spur-of-the-moment comments like that from non-fans.

I am excited about both releases, especially Gigi, which has quite a nice stereo soundtrack but needed remastering. I just hope that Warner doesn't pull a Dolby Digital on us and gives us True HD so we can hear the track as it is on the masters.

Damn right. Lossy audio on a musical would be a whole new level of bullshit.

The sad thing is, it's very possible with their track record.

I'm still trying to figure out why I don't already have An American Werewolf in London. I love both movies, and I can't wait for Paris.

Better check the title of the movie again. This isn't "An American Werewolf in Paris", but the classic 1951 musical "An American in Paris" starring Gene Kelly and Leslie Caron. No werewolves in this one.

I haven't seen either of them, but I'll put them on my Quickflix queue. Normally I'm not a big fan of musicals, but I do own a few (West Side Story and Singing in the Rain, for example).

Wow, it is about time to introduce some happy note into this thread about them coming out in a few months, instead of all this negativity. I am looking forward to buying both of these day one. The more classic films we get on Blu-ray, the better. And both will be excellent for displaying the richness of color for these titles. And both are excellent films, both winning the Best Picture Oscar for their respective years.
