Default 'Point Break' - High-Def Digest Review

Peter's review of 'Point Break' is up. He says it's a ludicrous but well-made '90s action flick. This Blu-ray will please the film's cult fans, with nicely remastered video and audio, and some entertaining supplements. If Fox wasn't pricing this so high, it would get a higher recommendation, but it's still worth checking out.

Assembled for new (to 2006) interviews are director Kathryn Bigelow, producer Rick King, some of the stunt/surfing crew, and cast members Keanu Reeves, Patrick Swayze, Lori Petty, and Gary Busey. Unfortunately, none really has much to say of depth about the film's "legacy" -- let's face it, this is 'Point Break,' not 'Star Wars.' The featurettes are competently shot and edited, however, and there is a small amount of behind-the-scenes footage. The four featurettes are: "It's Make or Break" (23 minutes), "Ride the Wave" (7 minutes), "Adrenaline Junkies" (7 minutes) and "On Location: Malibu" (8 minutes).
Just a nit pick - seems to be a tiny discrepancy... the first BOLD says 9 minutes but upon closer examination (the other BOLD areas) it seems that there are actually around 45 minutes of featurettes.... just thought I'd point out the error.

It was a little jarring when I read that section of the review because I stopped and thought, if this is what Fox calls a 'special edition' (the stated 9 mins of featurettes and some-odd deleted scenes) then they really haven't changed since their hiatus.

This movie has the scene that's mocked in Hot Fuzz, where Danny shoots an entire clip from his gun into the sky. Good stuff!

And, M. Bracke, FOX has always problems with the specs, specially audio and subtitles. Never trust their press releases!!!
The Spanish track is stereo, and not mono, and the subtitles are in English, Spanish, Korean and Mandarin, but not French!

Definitely buying this! 3.5 video and 4 audio makes it worthy.

Ummm the movie has already been remade..... it was called "the fast and the furious". Same exact movie, especially since keanu and paul walker couldn't outact a donkey.

I'll have to give this a rent its been a decade at least.... and yes hot fuzz's parody of this is classic.

Ditto. I'd like to score this in the $13-14 range. Love this movie!

And a big thank you goes out to HDD for giving us a review for a big name movie as the last review for the week. As opposed to a stinker B-movie or import.

Wow, a film that actually has "natural looking colors"

thanks god. I'm SO sick of this current trend of pumped up, blown out heavily oversaturated colors look that is so prevalent today.

Trust me, "Point Break Live" didn't ruin a thing for you; this movie's absoludicrous. I found it agonizing the first time I saw it but maybe I should give it another try.

But I'll still wonder, WHY IS EVERY SINGLE SHOT OF THE OCEAN IN SLOW MOTION? WHY????

I've got the Westinghouse TX-42F430S 42" 1080p LCD. I know you may have heard bad things about it, but I've got to tell you: Never buy the Westinghouse TX-42F430S 42" 1080p LCD.
