Default 'Assembly (UK Import)' - High-Def Digest Review

Kenneth has reviewed 'Assembly (UK Import).' He's a fan of the film, and says this UK BD import is an easy sell as well, presented with a gorgeous video transfer and a theater-shaking Master Audio track. There were some problems playing back the special features, but he says the movies plays great. Anyone interested in importing Blu-ray releases should bump this to the top of their lists.

I'gonna have to sit down and watch mine, that and 'Days of Glory' I'm backed up due to 'X-Files' and 'Stargate' and keeping up with AMZ. So I'll get to them in about a year or two

I love war movies. I need to get this. I was concerned that it might gloss over this little known war (to those in the west at least), but it sounds like the film is a good introduction to some unfamiliar territory. Thanks for the review, Ken.

Now I just need to think of another import from the UK to make shipping more palatable. Anyone have any suggestions?

Looking to buy this one but I see that Xploited has the UK version for $40 and the Hong Kong version for $30. Anyone know why the price difference?

After just reading the review, I just added it to my Amazon UK pre-order of Torchwood being release June 30. After VAT removal, Assembly is only £14.45 (under $30) and Torchwood (either BD or HD, I chose Red) is £35.10.

My guesses for price difference would be different distributors... different countries... different bonus features on the discs.

The UK version has a documentary, that I'm sure is worth watching, but it's likely not to play in any Region A players.

According the specs at XC, the UK has DTS-HD MA 5.1 and the HK discs has DTS-HD MA 6.1

I really want to get this but I hate to spend $10 more if I don't have to. But something tells me maybe the PQ won't be as good on the HK disc.

Ken, are the subtitles in the movie image or the lower letterbox bar?

Default Intrigued

Put me down as intrigued. Is there a forthcoming US release? I would prefer to Netflix this before I shell out a bunch of cash for an import. I can find both versions for about $34 shipped.

I would like to be able to watch the extras, so can someone with experience tell me:

1. Would the PAL extras play on a PC-based player (WinDVD)?

2. Is the HK version as good quality as the UK version?

3. Does Netflix typically stock imports like this?

4. Is there a US release planned?

Actually, the subtitles are wherever your player decides (or is configured) to render them.

I have a question for Ken. Would it be very beneficial to my enjoyment of the film to do some research on the Chinese civil war prior to watching it? Or is it primarily a standalone story that doesn't really require any knowledge of the war?
