Kenneth has reviewed 'Persepolis.' He says it's an excellent animated film that educates and entertains. This Blu-ray boasts 5 star video, a powerful TrueHD audio track, and a nice collection of supplements. Recommended.

Heard great things about this one. I think this'll be my blind buy for the upcoming long weekend. Glad to see the pq/aq rated high as well.

I'm going to rent this eventually. I just can't decide if it's my style of film or not, but I know I should watch it at least haha.

It's a really great movie, I started to skip but decided to go ahead with it. The Engligh dub is A++++++++++++.
Now we need 'Suchîmubôi' (Steamboy) which also had a great dub.

Steamboy had Patrick Stewart and Anna Paquin, but PS was WAY miscast in my eyes. his voice did NOT fit the character at all.

Can't wait to receive this in the mail. Maybe because I like my graphic novels but mainly because this one was a complete surprise to me and knowing that Satrapi co-wrote and directed it reassures me that this should be a beautiful film. The almost unanimous rave reviews help as well.

Yeah, completely agree with this review. Watched it last night and loved the movie. Dub was pretty great.
I'm going to give it a watch again with the French track this weekend. |

Just finished watching this, definitely an excellent movie. I have a religion teacher who grew up in Iran and has told us about it, but this just made her stories seem all the more real. BTW I loved the 'Eye of the Tiger' scene as well as anything involving her younger self. And the amount of work that went into animating this by hand is astounding.

Correction for the review:
Marjane isn't sent to France to study...she's sent to a French school in Vienna, Austria. In any case, I love this film. It's an amazing story and one which really opened my eyes to what Iran was like before the Revolution and the rise of the Ayatollahs. I knew some of it from talking to Iranian friends, one of whom makes regular visits to his homeland (family), but never realized just how different Iran of the 70s was from today's version. I've watched this little masterpiece some 4 times already. Highly, highly recommended. |
