Default 'The Illusionist (Italian Import)' - High-Def Digest Review

Josh has reviewed 'The Illusionist' (Italian Import). He says it's a largely satisfying mystery thriller with an appealing cast and an intriguing concept. This Blu-ray delivers fine picture quality, acceptable audio, and bonus features that won't function in an American player. Still, for fans of the film, this one is worth importing.

when I was at blockbuster like 2 years ago I decided whether I should be getting this or prestige. I went with Prestige. I may have to check it out now.

I've been holding myself back on buying the import for months, I also hope they announce a US release soon. For me this was one of those movies that I wanted to see but loved a lot more than I thought I would.

According to boxofficemojo, The Illusionist had a production budget of 16.5 million vs The Prestige's 40 million. For what it's worth (if this is true), the Illusionist did a mighty fine job with such a small budget! That really impresses me. As for which is the best, I think it depends on the person - I liked The Prestige more (and the Nolan brothers excellent work may the reason why), but agree that both are great. I will also add that I agree with the multiple viewings comment in the review.

Illusionist > Prestige

both had GREAT casts (Norton, Giamatti, Biel vs Bale, Jackman, Bowie, Johanson (sp)). both had great stories. but Illusionist just is a beautiful movie, and not as sci-fi as Prestige felt

I like The Prestige a bit more, and it had David Bowie. Ironicly it did spark interest in me to learn about Tesla. We have a statue of him in Niagara Falls a 45 minute trip for me. He was a fascinating guy.

Like most women I know my girl liked The Illusionist more than The Prestige. Maybe because there was more of a love story behind it. I loved The Prestige, but both are good movies. I have The Prestige on HD DVD but would pick up The Illusionist on Blu.
