Thumbs up 'A Scanner Darkly' - High-Def Digest Review

Peter's review of 'A Scanner Darkly' on Blu-ray is up, and it earns a rare five star video rating, tying with 'Happy Feet'as the best animated title he's seen yet on high-def.

This movie should get at least 4.5 out of 5 for the movie itself....amazing film!.....I have it on Bd and it looks amazing of course!......I think however I would have liked to see it in full wide screen 2:40 but hey I guess that is not going to happen anyways It was amazing!.....Review on movie itself is crap but the rest of the review I agree with.

Red face 5 Star Rating not appropriate

I wonder how a top 5 star rating can be given to any Blu-ray or HD DVD with the early state of AVC compression. The 5 star rating given must be relative.
I would not give anything a 5 until AVC Compression technology has advanced. Now, I haven't checked out the HD or Blu-ray yet, but I'm sure that there will be appropriate 5's to come... but not yet.

Cool Avc

The future bears more fruit for HD and Blu-ray AVC compression. This is the answer.

Don't you agree IllegalPrelude?

Wink HD-Ray

You're logic is truly dizzying. The future will be brighter for us when the formats do come together.

Bumping an ancient thread.
This movie is currently $9.99 at Amazon.com!

I never saw this but would like to hear some more impressions if you have them
Or maybe I should just blind buy it. It's Richard Linklater based on a book by Philip K. Dick, it can't be that bad right? Right?? Anyone?

I swear, this guy, Linklater, just likes the smell of his own farts, as that's what most of his character's dialog sequences end up coming out as. The whole thing is a leak of anal vapor, slowly seeping its pooey odor into the viewers nostrils. It stinks! The effect, is that it melts the brain with it's fowl stench, and worthless exercise in verbal masturbation. All you're left with, is nothing but the blank space that should be occupied by something meaningful.

I'm not going to lie...it's been years since I saw this film. I watched it during its "festival run" before it went nationwide, as I'm a fan of animation. I felt the film's trailer was ushering in a dawn of a new age, but when I saw it, I was truly mistaken. I really just did not like this film, or Waking Life. Both are just bleh. Honestly, these films make me angry.

Yeah, yeah...I'm usually very open and honest about my opinions on things. Granted, to the dismay of many here. However, these films by Linklater top my list of films that piss me off. They're films that I find on a level so low, that not even low quality junk like Transformers or Blackula reside. I hate these films. HATE THEM.

^funny review. I have mixed feelings about the movie but I think you've pretty much pegged much of the dialogue head-on.

Twoun, you know this is based on a Philip K. Dick novel, right? And not one of his best, either. The inane dialog is a feature of the source material. It's really just a story about Dick's druggie friends and the trouble they get themselves into, with the goofy chameleon costume as a plot device. The film sticks close to the bookl, but despite Phillip K.'s general awesomeness, the source wasn't very good this time.
