Default Disney Says BD-Live Will Be Key Component of Post 'Sleeping Beauty' Releases

Disney says BD-Live will be a key component of all post 'Sleeping Beauty' releases. The studio says this will not be technology for technology's sake and they'll push to promote the benefits of BD-Live to the studio's core family demographic.

What does everybody think of this plan?

I'm all for it as long as BD-Live improves. Meaning that we better have faster download times and material in HD.

Regardless I see this as a good sign. As one of the big selling points of Blu-ray, Buena Vista is the first studio to make a full commitment to BD-Live. The only other studio I have seen make a huge commitment would be Universal towards Bonus View.

Let's hope other studio's follow suit.

Don't give a flying shit. I bought HD media to enjoy the film and audio in high definition.

Can't wait!! Especially if LG gives the BH200 users the rumored profile 2.0 software upgrade soon. I personally miss this feature since the end of HD DVD.

Funny, seems like that's EXACTLY what it is.

It could be a cool feature, but since I'm not really into Disney stuff, I'm not all that curious yet.

Bbbbbbbut I thought BD-live and extra features didn't matter to anyone?

Oh, that's right, it only doesn't matter to people who can't use them. Of course they matter and the studios are spending money to develop the features so they are incorporated with the cost of the disc.

Obviously the majority of people have a PS3 so they'll be fine, but what about all the other poor saps?

Instead of pushing BD Live, how about pushing out the titles? Just a thought. I know they want it just to ram more Disney merchandise down my throat...

Not sure about why some of the negativity, I say hats off to Disney for going forward with all of the possibilities of the format. Sure I may not use all the 2.0 features and on some discs maybe none, but some will use them, and it's something dvd can't do, and that's a plus for blu-ray adoption!

Blu-ray Doesn't matter to me.

I bought for 2 things.

1. Improved Sound Quality

2. Improved Picture Quality.

I for 1 do not really care about special features and all that other junk on the I just wanted a better quality experience and that's what I am getting so I am happy. If I wanted "LIVE" content I would surf the net not use my player.

Honestly don't know much about what it will be used for but if will end up being just an excuse to remove content from the disc and put online and/or add additional cost to view it then obviously it isn't technology for its own sake but technology designed to appeal to nobody but the studios.

Although Disney is one of the better ones, dramatically more interested in studios focusing on improving video quality by laying off of the DNR and artificially manipulating transfers contrary to artistic intent.

I am eager to see what creative uses Disney will come up with to showcase BD Live.

While readers of this forum, AVSForum and the like are predominantly concerned with PQ and AQ, the average TV watcher with a 28" TV is not going to pay significantly more for a disc which they will only appreciate to its full if they upgrade their TV and/or hi-fi.

However, online games and other features which keep the kids interested and extend the viewing life of a BD over that of a DVD might strike a chord. Even if it doesn't, I think it's a good idea for Disney and others to promote the message that Blu-ray Disc (and HD DVD but that's another story!!) has clear technological advantages over Standard (legacy?) DVD above and beyond the PQ and AQ.
