Default 'Dirty Harry' - High-Def Digest Review

Peter's review of 'Dirty Harry' is up. He says the Blu-ray debut of this Eastwood classic is quite strong, with a sharp remaster and tons of extras. The audio didn't quite blow him away, but for a vintage flick, he says 'Dirty Harry' in high-def won't disappoint.

i'm really sick of these 4 star pq ratings. i know this film is old, but i have watched so many 4 star pq movies and they arent demo material. for us to be spending all this money on blu-ray movies and only have a quarter of them look as good as they possibly can is ridiculous, these companies need to cut the bullshit and start delivering true transfers that are worth all this money.

The transfers can only be as good as the source. Not everything is going to be crystal clear like you see on Discovery HD.

yup yup. not every transfer is going to be as awesome as 2001 and Casablance, for catalog issues. i'm happy for 4 star reviews. it's the 2 and below that piss me off if i wanted the title, and give me reason to avoid.

wow, are u serious?....honestly get used to it

i have no issue getting 4 star ratings on movies such as these...i never ever expect them to reach the heights of say spider man 3 video quality...you have to learn to expect less for movies of this age (1971 dude!)....its not all about restorations, as companies are using high def cameras to shoot movies nowadays...different from the past

and if ur so sick of these ratings....then just buy new releases, cause if u read it said that warner did a remaster for this, im sure they are doing what they can with the material...did u see 2001 in high def??

i know, and i should have mentioned more on the topic that this film really isnt predicted to be perfect looking, it's just that this was another good movie that is in high def, and i really can't be dissapointed with THIS transfer, but for all other movies that are at least (i'm being generous), 20 years or newer should all get 5 star pq ratings. if a movie like blade runner thats 25 years old when it came out (2007) and got a perfect 5 star rating, then all movies from the last (again i'm being generous) 20 years should be 5 star with the exception of some getting 4.5. you look at patton, a film older than dirty harry and it looks much better than dirty harry, i just wish that the majority of the movies, and just about all of the newer movies look as good as they could, many movies i sit down to watch again or sit down to watch and they do not look like they are a whole different format.... just about every movie i own on high def should be that kind of movie, i am going to reframe from buying any high def title that only gets a 4 star pq rating that should get higher for now on. movies like zodiac, no country for old men, and layer cake look unbelievable and are so much more entertaining to watch because of it. watching movies like children of men, hustle and flow, superbad, rescue dawn, all are great movies, but are less entertaining to watch, and at times frustrate me to know that these movies could and should look better......

to expect 5 star on every 20 yr old title or even superbad, rescue dawn is impossible....for one good reason....directors choose different filming / cinematography styles and stocks for their individual films, not all are chosen to be always in focus with naturalistic colour tones....some movies ie traffic use deep blues with a over the top grain....or miami vice (which btw was shot on high def video) which was chosen by Michael Mann to be grainy and cold....simply put, every movie is different, and if u are to truly call urself a film fan, u need to get over the need for top tier all the time pq quality, and just enjoy the film in the best format possible today

I have a question, what is the MSRP of the movie? it says $28.99 here but Amazon has the list price at $34.99. If its $28.99 Amazon should fix it and lower the price since it does have all Blu-rays at least 30% off

Unrealistic expectations.

Thats sums it up quite nicely.

I told you it looks great.

Though, to be honest I thought the TrueHD track was pretty damn impressive for a 1971 vintage movie. The LFE was nice and strong in parts, gunshots were pretty powerful, etc. Harry's .44 Magnum sounded 100000000x better than say Russel Crowe's shotgun blasts in L.A. Confidential. Given what they did with Dirty Harry, I'm hoping when L.A. Confidential comes out, the TrueHD or whatever lossless codec they use is amazing.

yeah but if the MSRP is $28.99 Amazon should be selling it for about $20, either Amazon bumped up the MSRP to sell it for more or the MSRP on here is wrong
