Little known fact: our editor in chief (and reviewer) Peter Bracke is both a horror film fan and expert -- he even wrote the recent best selling book 'Crystal Lake Memories: The Complete History of Friday the 13th.'
So I take his word for is when he says the 2006 remake of 'The Omen' is not so good. He found this week's Blu-ray release to be problematic too, although it's still a step up from the SD-DVD version. I've seen worse.
The PQ for the most part was soft looking. Noise wasn't distracting & the PQ never left me with a sense of "Oh this looks SD" Sound was equally impressive with the video. Thats not really saying much, but the dts track does provide an extra umph than standard Dolby imo. I didn't really find the score & dialog that appealing & I think it has to do with the way it was originally recorded, not the audio transfer imo. On the back of the packaging I got (Canadian) Fox lists the video as MPEG-2 at 18mbps & I noticed while reading Pete's review, its listed as AVC ??
