Default 'Patton' - High-Def Digest review

Just posted Kenneth's review of 'Patton.' He's a longtime fan of the film and says this 2-disc Blu-ray edition from Fox offers up an excellent video transfer, an above average DTS-HD MA catalog audio track, and a vast reservoir of supplements that are worth the price of admission alone.

Been waiting for this movie for so long. The wait is almost over. It's nice to see your review mirror the other ones I have read. This one looks like a real winner.

Can't wait to see this for myself. The intro will probably bring tears to my eyes for how good it looks and sounds.

Default Patton has one of my favourit movie quotes

Pardon me if i butcher this quote but i get immense joy every time i hear George C. Scott talk about the meaning of war to his troops. " War isn't about dying for your country, it's about making the enemy die for his".

To the guy who hasn't seen it before you're in for a real treat, truly one of my top ten favourite films of all time.

Glad to see Fox give this movie the right treatment. This will be a must buy for me only when I see it on sale as I refuse to give Fox any money for over priced catalog movies.

Default Love Patton...

but as much as I wish I was 21 rather than 31, the movie is actually 38 years old not 28, but that makes the transfer all that much more impressive!

That's why I didn't become an accountant

Thanks for catching the mistake -- it's been corrected!

lol, i think patton's is "making the other poor bastard die for his."

I really want this title, but almost 30 dollars for a catalog release is so steep. I hope we get one of those fry's Fox sales, the 2 for 30 deal, otherwise I just cannot justify the price tag. If they dropped it to $20, I reckon they'd sell a lot more, enough to grossly outweigh the drop in price.

Normally, I'd agree. Fox catalog titles are too pricey.

However, 'Patton' is spread across a 2-disc set with hours of fantastic features and a gorgeous picture. Like I said in my review, the supplemental package is so interesting that it's almost worth the cost of admission alone. Compare the Blu-ray edition of 'Patton' to the other fugly, barebones Fox classics being released this coming week at the same price -- I'd actually say 'Patton's price isn't a bad deal.

Just this guy's opinion. I'd imagine the regular 2-for-1 BOGOs we've grown accustomed to will be phased out in favor of less frequent 3-for-2 deals now that the format war is no more. As always, thanks for posting!

Lol, thats funny...

I have it ordered as the war bundle. I had it ordered as a single but was ordering all of them anyway so I decided to save a little money . My dad says this is one of his favorite movies of all time.

Patton is probably my all time favorite movie and this performance by Scott is one of the best ever put on film. It is funny how views differ regarding Patton as a leader and a man. I don't want to give away any of the movie since it seems a lot of people have never seen this but Patton was hard core and the war was about winning, glory and not politics. All glory is fleeting. I wouldn't agree with the bi-polar egomaniac discription in the review though he had quite the ego. This is one of the ten greatest generals in the history of the country and will be my first blu-ray purchase.

Lists are subjective but here is one from Associated Content. I would place Patton ahead of Grant, Bradley, and Marshall and possibly a push with MacArthur.

The Top Ten American Generals of All time:

1. George Washington (1732-1799)
2. John Pershing (1868-1948)
3. George C. Marshall (1880-1959)
4. Robert E. Lee (1807-1880)
5. Ulysses S. Grant (1822-1885)
6. Omar Bradley (1893-1981)
7. Douglas MacArthur (1880-1964)
8. Dwight D. Eisenhower (1890-1969)
9. Winfield Scott (1786-1866)
10. George S. Patton (1885-1945)
*Honorary status goes to Friedrich Wilhelm Ludolf Gerhard Augustin Steuben, Baron

I wonder about this myself all the time. Every time I go to concerts at my local venue they charge $8 per beer. At that price I usually only have one, but if they lowered the price to say $5, I know I'd drop $20 easy. I know they might not WANT people to drink allot more at a show for safety reasons, but these sort of pricing schemes happen all the time when safety isn't an issue, ie $40 catalog blu ray discs. Where is the logic here? Despite how much I want this movie, they've lost another sale here due to price.

Another title I would be very interested in, and $27.95 doesn't seem too much for this package, but well, it's by Fox, and Fox in their infinite wisdom slap a region code even on decades-old classics. So at this point I feel like going on another rant about Fox and what useless dicks they are, but what's the point?

*ç%&/"* Fox!!
