I have a mild interest in the Stones so will probably rent it but good news for the many Stones fans out there.

Indeed...so I will be picking this one up first day. Hopefully I can get it at a good price during Amazon's "High Def Week"

I'm a HUGE Scorcese fan and a very casual Stones fan... I really like their music, don't get me wrong, but I wouldn't know every song in a set list or anything...

I was very excited to see this when it hit theaters, but never got a chance. Worth a purchase or just a rent?

As a fellow HUGE Scorsese fan and a slightly more than casual, but not hardcore Stones fan, I'd say purchase it. The concert doesn't have the importance of Scorsese's The Last Waltz and is not shot as such. It is really an excercise in capturing through film the excitment that IS the Rolling Stones and Scorsese captures it alright, using complex aerial camera set-ups and just about every great DP to ever hold a camera. I wouldn't worry about not knowing every song in the set list, they play mostly hits with on a couple of B-side tracks.

awesome... I remember getting chills in the theater during the trailer when Gimme Shelter was blasting while you see Scorcese lining up shots and camera angles... I guess there's another purchase I'll have to plan for

Yeah, that was the joke, "This is the only Scorsese film without Gimme Shelter in it." I think Jagger made it, not sure.
