Default 'G.I. Jane' - High-Def Digest Review

Peter's review of 'G.I. Jane' is up, and it isn't pretty. He found the film itself disappointing, while this Blu-ray edition feels very much like a tossed-off studio catalog release -- there are no extras, and the transfer and soundtrack (while both fine) are nothing exceptional.

I thought this movie was pretty good...

But I'm a little dissapointed in the PQ... I was expecting a little higher.

Also, no supplements? What's up with that, Buena?

Wow, I didn't even know it was made by Ridley Scott... Over and over, I came across this title at rental stores, etc... It was always somewhat appealing, but I never actually got around to watching it. Now I don't see much need to at all.

Seriously, I'm really not liking the fact that recent high-def releases are not including supplements (see Night at the Museum)

It's not a surprise that the Blu-Ray doesn't have any special features since the DVD didn't either and all Disney is doing is making clones of their DVD's as Blu-Rays all they are doing is putting in high-def picture and sound. Everything else is the same. At least Disney is actually going the extra mile of including those features on Blu-Ray at all, unlike Fox which isn't even giving their new releases many features but charging $40 for them. Which also brings up a plus for Disney, they are only charging $30 for this Blu-Ray, at least it's not $40.

Yeah, I agree.

Night at the Museum, I was expecting for nothing... after all, it is Fox and they don't care about the movies they release.

I agree with Peter totally. G.I. JANE was one of my most favorite films than needed re-mastering since it was an early DVD without even enhancement for 16x9.

Now having seen the Blu-ray version, it is definitely an improvement over the DVD, but that's just not saying much. The soft look of the film was certainly disappointing after waiting so long for a pristine transfer.
