I love this film!

I won the SD director's cut and I don't think it was anamorphic...the scenes that were restored were also not in great quality.

Can't wait for this one!

There's no anamorphic version of this film out right now, so this is a very welcome release for one of my favorite films.

The additional footage was also not of the highest quality on the old DVD release-- I'm curious, if it's integrated back into the film, if Stone has cleaned it up enough for a relatively seamless transition.

Can't wait for this...

Super. It's mine already.

Considering Stone's personal politics, his presentation of Nixon the man, was more compassionate than I expected; compassionate, but with a hard edge, as is probably appropriate.

I look forward to owning it on Blu.

I actually found it more entertaining as a Shakespearean tragedy than as a history. I think Stone even directed it this way, with all sorts of cinematic flourishes-- see his opening establishing shot of the White House in full haunted mansion style, complete with slow zoom, ominous music, and thunder and lightning. Or Hopkins playing Nixon as a modern-day Hamlet, driven mad by the demons of his past, and literally seeing ghosts at times.

Can't wait for this release, I love this film.

I've always thought that this was one of Hopkins best performances.

Your points are well taken. My brief remark reads a bit more literally than intended. The movie is anything but a history lesson, containing as it does, many of Stone's stylized cinematic hallmarks.

I think it's a fine blending of components and style, and one of Stone's better efforts. Also, I think Joan Allen's performance as Pat Nixon was stellar, and every bit as crucial to the success of the film as Anthony Hopkins performance was.

The director's cut is absolutely terrible. Nixon is one of my favorite films and the DC absolutely ruined the movie for me. Unless the theatrical cut is accessible by seamless branching, I will pass on this.

There were really only several scenes added for the director's cut:

A scene where the President's car is beset by angry protestors on the way to the CIA for the meeting with Helms.

an scene between Nixon and CIA Director Richard Helms, played by Sam Waterston-- this is the longest of the cut scenes.

A scene where Nixon storms into a Cabinet meeting and declares that there will be no more leaks.

A scene between Hoover and Nixon in the President's office before Tricia's wedding, where Hoover suggests that Nixon record all his office conversations-- this is the second-longest of the cut scenes.

Those are the scenes that I remember-- it didn't seem like there was enough there to completely change the theme and style of the movie, particularly since no other elements of the movie were rearranged or changed, so I'm surprised that the differences between the theatrical cut and the "director's cut" made the movie unwatchable for you.
